Default Customs Letter

I just got a customs letter from border protection saying my items were seized, and that I had to fill out a form to petition for relief, does anyone know exactly what this is? Should I just not respond?

Also, it said the appraised domestic value is 2500 dollars(which is is not, it is way lower) And then it says I have 30 days to petition for relief from the liability....Does this mean I will be charged 2500 dollars, or there just saying that its worth 2500 and that it will be destroyed? I don't really understand...

Disregard letting, if you proceed you may not like the results and could face time...

DISREGARD the letter as if you never got it

If you respond and try to do something you should be doing which is responding to the letter.

Listen - is the letter REGISTERED? If not - do nothing, regular mail does not count

Search the forum for all kinds of posts on these letters. Do not respond and do NOT repeat.

You get paperwork when you recieve the mail. Usually needs a signature.

Where did the letter get sent to and who received it? You or another person?

Answer is the crux of your next steps

It got sent to me. It came with 5 pages, and on the last page, there is a form called ELECTION OF PROCEEDINGS FORM AF-POST and it gives me the option to check 4 things
1) I request that cbp consider my petition or offer administratively.
2)I request that CBP behin administrative proceedings to forfeit the property
3) I abandon the property and request that the cbp behin administrative proceedings to forfeit the proeprty
4)I request that cbp refer the case for court action
and then at the bottom I can sign and write a date...

If your getting serious with stealth and what you do. You should keep a lawyer on your pay roll. Its best to ask him about stuff like this.

Make sure you also change your address for any future imports.

That address is blacklisted

I had DHL seized packages and my supplier just re-shipped with another service...

I have not used DHL since then because I was told address was blacklisted...

I recently made more purchases and told them shipped EMS...

Low and behold they send me tracking number and it was DHL... NOOooooo... Told my supplier big mistake my address is blacklisted... He said "dont worrry packages will go through no problems"... I never had a supplier insist on DHL. 3 days later the packages arrived without problem. So I am assuming your address is not so much blacklisted as it is flagged for inspection. Being that items were legit it was perfectly fine to reuse address...

ILTS - If you are so stressed and worried about customs and the products you should look for something else to sell. Yes you can absolutely get in trouble with the law. They are the law... Especially lately there are HUGE crackdowns going on. You think its bad now, wait until next holiday season. 2011 was very tough and slow. I expect it to be 3 fold this year.

Is it ⊗⊗⊗⊗ that they are cracking down on? That's what everyone here is talking about right?

Please take this seriously.

If you do not know the basics of importing goods from overseas you are going to have problems.
Anyone importing an item to onsell must know the legal side of the item.
They have a duty to themselves to be safe in their selling and not swayed by money. Too many young sellers are picking items to import because they 'see' friends ' do it and the money is good.
Well that backfires when items get seized by a Government that has the legal right to obtain seizure.

In this instance, a violation of copyright laws is as bad as importing phakes.

@OP, you REALLY need to have a better grasp of HOW the postal system works before you ship/order things via the e-mail. Not wanting to be offensive but ALWAYS know what you are dealing with.
