Default Buyer trying it on with SNAD - suggestions?

Hi Folks,

Sold some used t*y*r*e*s, got a fair price for them.

Buyer was intending to collect because he is reasonably local then at the last minute decides to pay postage. Wheels sent out within 48 hours of payment - all good.

Just off the phone with him because he is saying they are not as described, the tread depth is not as per the listing. I know this is nonsense as I measured them with a digital depth gauge twice, before listing and before postage.

Then he let slip the ones he removed from his car had similar tread to the condition he is stating mine are in...

In order to protect my account I have offered a full refund on return of these to me, but I know full well I will not be getting mine back and instead will be receiving a set of the crap ones he removed from his car (same brand/size as they are OEM spec).

What can we do about this situation? Yes, perhaps use the report a buyer button, but to what end? His account looks clean/FB etc, but his last minute decision to have them posted rather than collected ensures he can do a PP chargeback and leave me in the doodoo if I dont comply.

This is the third time in the last month buyers have tried it on with me and me ending up with a damage return (like for like), and at the moment I am currently down £350 due to one buyer still having the items and the money (thanks ebay). It seems more and more buyers are happy to screw over anyone in order to replace like for like items with newer/non-damaged/refurbished items and ebay are happy to force us to comply thanks to the SNAD option.

Do I just have to take it on the chin? I sold something and posted it all in good faith and yet I am going to get back unsellable rubbish and be £60 down.

I need to make a change with my business model as it is hugely flawed with the fact I am selling used items, it just leaves me open for this kind of abuse.

Anyone else having similar problems and perhaps have any suggestions as to possible action to take to deal with it?

Thanks.

and now to top it off, the muppet has opened a case in the resolution centre wanting me to cover return postage costs, to my registered address - just off the phone with him again asking what he is playing at.

Should I just refund him in full and tell him to forget about posting back as all I will be getting is crap anyway?

Has he already done the damage to my account by opening this case or if I resolve it now will it be ok?

If you resolve the problem before it escalates it doesn't get counted against you.

he may not want to do you over face to face, maybe tell him you are collecting?

as for scamming, maybe it is an issue with what you sell and some items are probably more likely, particularly if high value, but actually, you may be the same as alot of others. I did not have any problems for years but then I got 2 high value scams in a row, one new one used....it is very upsetting..

Ive offered a 9/10's refund (covering my original postage costs) if he wishes to hold onto the tyres because at this stage I have something unsellable coming back to me and teh condition of the refund now is he leaves positive feedback - but he wants the full amount now to do that.

I like your idea oompa, but he comes across like he is well enough versed in this game, so I would think he is more than happy to do me over face to face.

Is it worth hitting the report a buyer button? incase he does this regularly?

Wrong approach.
Offer full refund, never pay return postage for the buyer. Never. Take it with Ebay/Police Report afterwards if stuff happens.

thanks, positive feedback received. refund issued. I've now offered to collect them from him and scrap them (as he says they are scrap) so will wait and see whether that pans out, with a face-to-face situation.

how do i report to the police, with a stealth account, given that the details are not technically mine, or my home address?

i'd love to be able to involve the police due to a situation i have with an expensive item also SNAD claimed, with refund issued and no item back to me :(

So far nothing happened, you only assume.

Go pick up the stuff, bring the necessary paper work with you, and call the police right there when he is with you, if stuff happens. That's what I would do.

Do not go alone to this idiot.

Go with somebody.

For preference meet on neutral ground to collect the tyres.

After this all ends, follow him home. If he lives at a house with a nice green lawn pore some bleach on the grass and it will be dead within 1-2 hours, it works better when its hot and dry outside. Turpentine will also work. Someone told me boiled water works but I would not recommend it. To sure to buy enough bleach, dont run out in the middle of the job.

But I would not recommend this since its against the law, I am just given a opinion, its not like I ever tried it

hehe, at school we did that to our headmaster...plus we wrote a very rude word with the weedkiller.

threat of calling the coppers might help. Now you have good feedback, I would just say you took advice from ebay, and they said when collecting to call police if not original tyres. tell him you will take pictures and take them next to his number plate if poss...

ebay do advise to do this, they told me I should do it when I got something different returned to me..I obviously didnt, everyone knows they cannot do anything, but the threat I think is an incentive to bring right tyres...

well he has his refund in full and I have the positive feedback, but he has failed to respond to my requests to collect them from him...this leads me to believe he is trying it on.

I appreciate all that has been said (even the bleach lol) but nobody has commented with regards involving the police - how am I able to do this given my account is in a stealth name/address? Its not as though I can call them and give them stealth details - surely they would try and lock me up instead lol...

GB will be going with my wife during the day, I agree its better to take someone along x

no it is not involving the police, it is the threat of it that may solve it. Correct, bad idea to involve your stealth.

I would not have given refund until the tyres collected though, even if I brought my phone/laptop with me and processed it in front of him. He holds the cards now and he knows it.
