Lost my NJ shore house and everything in it. Wasn't allowed back on the island until today. It and my neighbor's were lifted off their foundation and crashed into each other. Saw my neighbor also admiring the damage and joked that I hope he has collision insurance on his house.

So far I am being told they cover up to $30,000 but I easily have over $100,000 in damage. Got a generator, punched some gas tanks and using it to heat myself with a space heater. Blow torched my water boiler and finally got it manually lit. Only one on the block with heat and hot water, oh yea and fresh water to drink since I filled a huge garbage bag in a tank before the hurricane. Standing guard since there's a lot of looting and gunpoint home invasions.

Is the 30K you are talking about from FEMA because to my knowledge I'm at a complete loss. Insurance will not cover anything because they will atribute the damage to flood water (not covered) eventhough it was a combination of wind and water that totaled my place. I'm at least a 350K loss.

I feel for you hazy as the Shore place was not my primary residence. Good luck and hopefully you are back to normal faster then my shore house will be rebuilt.

@hazy, sad to hear that this hurricane affected you so badly but I hope you and your loved ones are ok.

@futuremogul888, I hope your insurance company realizes that its not flood water but hurricane damage resulting from WIND - even fire due to short-circuiting.

Hope it works out for the both of you

That is how they always get out of paying in Florida.... If you got flood insurance they say it was wind and hurricane and if you got only Hurricane they say it was flood... Gotta have both and most do not because they cannot afford it...

These people are lower then cockroaches!

Believe it or not, the burned houses are probably going to be the only people in the end who won't get 100% played by the insurance companies.

I'm not saying it's right or I would set my house on fire though...

Yea it's crazy... It wouldn't be such an unlikely event if my house were to blow up since I have a generator full of gas running and propane tanks laying around...
