Anyone else notice this?

I created a new account and went to verify bank, usually there are only 2 ways to do it, deposits and logging in bank. This time i noticed a 3rd way, it was by phone....... A code is sent to your phone, that simple. I don't see how that verifies a bank account but shoot.... fine with me.

And people need to be careful using this method and not have text or calls going to a number that is on the wrong account.

Paranoid yes, but I simply dont trust them at all so have all your i's dotted.

Yeah that is definitely something to watch out for. They probably monitor the numbers very carefully since its verifying a bank account. Hopefully they don't care about verifying with a number that is not on file in that particular account but has never been used before.

Why would that be fine?

It's giving paypal access to more of your info.

No need to risk a phone number.

At least with the two deposits or log on paypal is limited as to what they touch.
I would stick to that.

Oh, why would your phone verify a bank acct? Or are you saying that its just a ruse and they still want the b/a verified by the old method afterward.

I guess your right, it would be way too easy for you to just confirm by phone without getting a phone call the next day on that phone number verifying info further more with them.

I'm going to have to test this out.

There are 2 explanations for this. As Sandy said they could be running a sting operation. The other is that there is a newbie programmer at pp that just committed a foobar.

The third explanation is that pp is just trying to be cool and making people think life is easier by having everything tied to their phone.

Not a fan of this idea - too many phones go missing...

Avoid this new trick.

Already been told by two people there account got limited by using this method.

Have patience and wait it out.

Wish i read this before i tried it. I might be getting limited too. But for some reason when i tried it, it wouldn't let the call go through b/c the phone was unable to get verified. So i did the deposit method. Hopefully i don't get busted.

I'll tell you why the phone call method may be a legitimate way to verify a bank account. Paypal has an agreement with the banks to verify certain pieces of information with your permission. The banks use your phone number as a verification method. Just activated a debit card with BofA by calling an automated number and typing in the card number. It did not ask me a single personal question but instead just activated the card based on the fact that I called with the phone number on record.

So if Paypal is allowed to login and verify your bank account, maybe it also has access to obtain the phone number on record with the bank for verification purposes. If so, it would make sense that they could verify a bank account just based on the phone number.

I tend to think it would only be certain banks that they would have this agreement with like the big national ones. I highly doubt this is a programming mistake.
