| | | | | boost | 02-25-2013 04:58 PM | @#$%!!!! Professional Buyer...FTL Buyer wins auction, pays $1600. I send the item. He receives it fine - then late at night, about 1am or so while I am asleep he sends a vague message via ebay messages. Then 5am rolls around and he opens a SNAD case on ebay...all he writes in the message to ebay was that he emailed me and I emailed him back stating that "the transaction is completed". NO, he never emailed me and he only sent me one bullsh&^ message before opening the case. So I write out a long response to his case, state all the facts, bring up the fact that he has only 10 feedback and hasnt bought anything over $30. Blah blah.
He escalates it to ebay without responding. Ebay sends me an email stating they told him to send the item back to me and once it arrives, I can issue him a refund and the case won't count against me. YET now my TRS is in jeopardy for March because of opened case (hello, when does that opened case policy come into effect...APRIL)
Buyer sends me a package, I am sure to get video opening it because I already knew he was going to dick me. What do you know, I get two books in the box.
Paypal already has the funds held, OF COURSE. Only option on the ebay case is to "issue a refund". I sent a message back to this "Alex H." from ebay CS and told him I am not willingly issuing a refund when ONE, paypal already has the funds held...TWO, ebay told me the case wouldn't count against me YET IT HAS...and THREE, they didn't bother to even read a single thing I typed in the case, even warning them I knew the intentions of the buyer.
So buyer gets product, $1600 and my TRS is in peril. Horse****, I swear. |
| Gamefreak | 02-25-2013 06:41 PM | Thats just how stuff goes sometimes. Your lucky your TRS otherwise I think this case would have been over once he escalates it. |
| boost | 02-25-2013 06:57 PM | Doesn't matter - he returned junk and I'm left to foot the bill...and ebay forcing a refund. I'm sure I'll even see a neg out of it. My TRS will be gone March 20th unless that case gets knocked off by these supposed new buyer dispute policies. Not holding my breath |
| Bunneh | 02-25-2013 07:02 PM | |
| zoneout | 02-25-2013 07:06 PM | Couple of angles... Did he return it to you with signature tracking? If not just tell ebay you never got it. Items over $250 have to be signed for.
If you signed for it then...
Go right to your police station and file a police report for stolen property. Bring all the info you possibly can as they will need to put it into the report. Next, file a mail fraud case with the postal inspector. You can get the links on usps.com.
You have to work quick because once paypal releases the funds to him, ballgame is over. Once you have the police report call ebay, get T&S (dont let Peggy BS you - tell them you have a police case and get a real T&S person.
Tell them the story, you have a good chance of getting your money back if your ducks are in a row. |
| Bunneh | 02-25-2013 07:08 PM | Hopefully you posted the item to a physical address and not a P.O Box so that they can actually catch that BS buyer!! |
| boost | 02-25-2013 07:19 PM | He returned with a medium flat rate priority box. Inside that box was a padded mailer with 2 books in it. He sent it from a PO BOX "insured"...the shipping cost ended up being something like $35. I signed for it obviously because I had to.
I initially sent the item to a physical address - he sent me the package with a PO BOX address as his return address. So maybe something fishy is up with that, I don't know. Package was signed for at the physical address I sent it to. |
| corleone | 02-25-2013 07:32 PM | Tough call.
One thing I would do for sure is post his address in ripoff report or something. . .I've never had this happen, but is there a website to report scammer info?
Have you tried googling their address? This sounds like someone who has done this many times. |
| boost | 02-25-2013 07:43 PM | The address is some bs sounding address...it got delivered, it shows he signed for it but in the address section of where he signed, it says "536"....no address, nothing. Just "536". Doesn't even put his name on the signature page, just a half-assed signature. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4127/sigcon.jpg |
| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 07:46 PM | Postal fraud is postal fraud.
Defend yourself. |
| slim jim | 02-25-2013 07:50 PM | Re: @#$%!!!! Professional Buyer...FTL 536 seems like they are signing as received at a pobox. Maybe they are using a forwarding service |
| boost | 02-25-2013 07:58 PM | Just looked at the package they sent me, it is PO BOX 536 that is listed as his return address. I sent to a physical address...looking at Bing Maps (which has a better view that Google Maps) it looks like the address is out in the middle of nowhere at an area that isn't fully developed... http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/8139/houself.jpg |
| slim jim | 02-25-2013 08:07 PM | They are using address forwarding
I would call ebay and give them all of this info that you have found . If you get a human they will see the address is bs |
| boost | 02-25-2013 08:09 PM | Trust and Safety? |
| boost | 02-25-2013 08:30 PM | Seems the "case manager" isnt available at the moment so I will be receiving a call back from him today or tomorrow. We will see how that goes....not holding my breath on a call. |
| Roscoe | 02-25-2013 08:35 PM | $1,600.00??? Ouch!
So why isn't everyone a Professional Buyer if Ebay makes it seem so easy?
I keep hearing about these Ebay horror stories more and more. I am clueless as to how Ebay works but isn't there a way to protect yourself?
Hope you nail this ******* :smash: |
| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 08:40 PM | @Roscoe,
sure there is.
It's just like your paypal ( lack of protection)
A certain type of c**p shot.
This entire ebay game is dependent on which player has the best cojones
:fight: |
| Roscoe | 02-25-2013 08:42 PM | That's what I thought!
Do you think there are "Professional Buyers" on THIS forum? |
| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 08:46 PM | Nope.
We smoke em out.
Just the idiots get left.
Most of them are sellers
:pound: |
| boost | 02-25-2013 08:47 PM | Sure, it's called "seller protection", but nobody knows how the hell it works....oh wait, that's because it DOESN'T work. |

| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 08:48 PM | boost, boost, boost.
Get the terminology correct.
Sellers LACK of protection, you actually mean |
| keithy72 | 02-25-2013 08:51 PM | Terrible news this, I hope you get it sorted....Im sure you will, you said in your opening post that you got a video, I presume for the return package??
If so surely ebay will give this one to you, I cant see how they cant?????
Good luck with it anyway and do let us all know how it goes. |
| boost | 02-25-2013 08:55 PM | Yes, video of the return package being opened. I could tell it wasnt the item due to the weight of the package. Sure enough, I was correct. |
| Gamefreak | 02-25-2013 09:19 PM | Why would you even use USPS for something that expensive.. First off UPS would have shipped to a po box is the address was a PO box...
Pro scammer right here or they bought from you and saw how you did things and found you to be an easy target |
| zoneout | 02-25-2013 09:28 PM | Is the case still escalated? If so the clock is ticking.... Once they close the case its a done deal. You need to get moving. DO NOT WAIT for the case manager or whatever the hell the person is called. THEY WILL NEVER CALL YOU.
On ebay get the buyers contact info. That will have more info on the person. Get the phone number. Call the phone number see who answers or if it is a wrong number. If he put phony contact info it will help eb decide in your favor.
You need to get a police report. Take your laptop - show them the video. Bring all the evidence - the boxes, everything. Show them the weight of what you sent and the weight of what you received. Show them the address forwarded. Show them everything you can think of ... the paypal invoice, etc.
Once you get the report, call eb back during business hours 9-5 PST. Tell them you have a case of fraud and you are holding a police report in your hand. If the person sounds like they are giving you the run-around, insist you want a manager. If they stone-wall, hang up and call again until you get a real person from T&S or a CS manager.
You can win this but you have to take action now. If you leave it up to the whim of a case manager sitting in Pakistan you are going to get burned. |

Right now theres an option on the case that says "issue refund" and under it it says if I issue refund then the case wont count against me. Thats bs because it already HAS counted in my seller dashboard. Case shows as "awaiting delivery".
I will file a police report in the morning at the local police station...and report this to post inspector tonight online. I already have the guys info...seems mod deleted it already after you posted it. His PO box was on his return label. The physical address is what I sent the item to. |

Time is ticking. 1599 good reasons should see you busting your chops. Dont let other bad things with ebay prevent trying.

:peace: | Because the police department hours are 8am - 5pm...am I going to stand outside their door until they open tomorrow morning? |
| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 10:56 PM | Sure thing.
Get a sleeping a bag & go wait.
Geeze..... usual to have longer opening hours for the police. |
| boost | 02-25-2013 11:04 PM | Police here in my area are........
Well I went ahead and just filed a report online. I now have a temporary case number and will get the finalized report and case number "within 5 days" apparently.
Will give ebay a call in the morning with this info. |
| GreenBean | 02-25-2013 11:08 PM | Alright.
Start the fight.

He uses the PO Box as his mailing address and forwards all the mail there from his physical address.
I would recommend phoning the PD first. Explain your issue. Ask them if they prefer to send a squad car over to your place or for you to go to the station. Its usually actually easier for them to send a car over to get the info than tie up the front desk. If you live near a donut shop - so much the better. |
| zoneout | 02-25-2013 11:19 PM | OK, saw that you were able to file a case online... very nice. That 5 days might be a problem if ebay wants you to fax over the report but sometimes they are OK with getting a case # first. If they insist you fax it just head down to the PD with a dozen DDs... you`ll get the report pronto. |
| boost | 02-25-2013 11:35 PM | Yea online it says they will send a PDF of the finalized report and case number and if they need more info they will contact me.
I have the print out though of what I filed along with the temporary case number, so if ebay wants that I can shoot that over as well in the meantime.
Will file IC3 report and see if it lets me print anything out as well. I have already filed with post investigator website. So tomorrow I shall call ebay again and hopefully get to the right people regarding this. I believe it is actually the buyer protection department I need to speak with, not Trust and Safety, as this "Alex H." is assigned to handle the case and he is in the "high claims department" according to the 2 people I spoke with tonight. |

I been thru this a few times and got my money back - though nowhere near the amount here.
One time a buyer said an ipod I sold him was defective. eb told him to return the ipod. I received a box and there was a piece of paper inside that said `ipod`. :mad2: |
