Google versus Ebay Search

So I have been thinking about having a small word press site built with articles with linking to my Ebay store. Then using something to promote it through search off black hat etc. but then I have read quite a bit that its what were paying Ebay for, the traffic that is already there.

Do any of you have outside sites trying to drive traffic to your Ebay listings? Has it worked well? Been worth the time and expense? Increased views?
