Default Keep Same IPs for Various Stealth Accts - FIOS Router

I've been scouring this forum for the past 12 hours on this topic, and I still have this question so I figure it's time to finally throw it out there to you folks that are (much) more experienced than I am. Please be kind, I tend to get tunnel vision when I can't figure something out after hours and hours!

After reading the eBay stealth guide I know that I need to have a unique IP for each stealth eBay account. That part I'm ok with- reading these forums has helped me to understand how to reset my router to obtain a new IP (however I do wish it could be reset more quickly- cant figure out how to drop the lease quicker than 2 hours). The part I'm really stuck on is the idea that I would really love to have a different but consistent IP for each individual account. I understand that this can be accomplished using the router MAC if you have a router connected to a modem, but unfortunately I have a FIOS Actiontec router/modem combination that doesn't appear to allow for MAC address changes. The simple answer I know would be to change this set up, but unfortunately from what I understand the FIOS router/modem also controls our FIOS DVR/On Demand. My husband already hates the amount of time I take "figuring out" eBay, I don't think I want to mess with his TV too.... YIKES!

I know there are two different schools of thought on whether keeping your IP address steady for each stealth is necessary or even helpful at all, but after reading the forums I think there may be some benefit in this for looking more stable in eBay's eyes. Also, I know myself and I know that it would be a whole lot easier on me to be organized from the get go instead of trying to keep up with every little detail as I go along. The more things I add to keep up with on the regular, the more of a recipe for disaster for me.

So- Im looking for suggestions to help me do this that wont be excessively expensive or difficult, and that wont mess up my husbands TV!

Here are some ideas I've come across on the forum, but I'm not quite sure on how I would implement them or if they even apply to my situation. Your time to read this post & your advice is so appreciated!:

Idea 1. Suggestion from "Joew8989" in another post on this thread: "I have the Verizion hot spot, I have 1 Dongle (usb wireless card, EDIMAX EW-7811Un USB 2.0 Wireless nano Adapter) http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/291008042649?lpid=82 (cut and paste) pet account. Almost everytime I log in I will get the same ip address. I currently have 14 accounts and 14 different numbered specific dongles. If I understand you correctly you have 1 dongle. If you are going to have 30 ebay, windows user accounts you are going to need 30 dongles. I per user account."
  • By Verizon Hot Spot does he mean he uses the hot spot through his mobile phone provider?
  • Why does this particular dongle keep IP addresses? I thought the purpose of using a dongle was to continuously get new IP addresses? Are there "static" dongles?

Idea 2. I've seen posts about MAC address cloning, but nothing yet on how it works. My router does support that function.

Idea 3. Use a switch somehow to connect the modem/router with other routers that allow MAC changes? Just throwing stuff out there now...

Sorry for the long post - thanks in advance for letting me pick your brains!

P.S. This forum is an ADD person's dream come true! Thank you so much for all the wonderful information!

P.P.S. Please excuse the username, I know its awful.... & cant figure out how to change it

Hi employeea1,
basically your post is waaaaaaaay too long for a non US native like I am. And I guess part of the readers here, will drop it at the 6th line....
But Anyway, I think I got your point and I tell you what I think about it.

The main issue for stelthing is avoid creating links between accounts.

It is not fundamental having the same ip for each account but be shure to have a differen ip that has not been used (possibly) on any of your other accounts.

Use separate windows user for each account and keep cookies in place. This will accomplish what you wrote above "looking more stable in eBay's eyes".

This is what I am doing on the other side of the ocean and is working just fine.

Instead of going thro' all the hassles involved with your FIOS router, and disturbing the husband, select a dongle instead.

That way you are a free agent so to speak.

Being stealth means operating in a simple easy manner. ADD prefers such ways of operating.

How does that sound?

The only thing I worry about with the dongle is when I'm going to have one of those, "Oh I'll write that IP address down later" days. Why I was hoping to go with something more consistent like the MAC solution. Do you know anything about what Joew8989 was talking about with a dongle for each account that kept a Static IP? Also- I think I need to read up some more about how dongles use, from his post he seemed to be saying he used the dongles with his Verizon phone hotspot, but I thought they provided their own connection from what I have read on here. Thanks for your help everyone.

The dongle being referred to is a usb network card. The hot spot is from verizion. Each network card will look for the last IP address it had if its available. It wont always find it, but more often than not it will

Thanks joew8989! I'm assuming the hot spot with Verizon is through your mobile account with them? If you don't mind my asking how much data do you use per month doing that? I think we have something like 6GB on our plan right now and we eat that up every month just surfing our phones. Does the data useage get terribly expensive? Thanks for your help

Data depends on how much surfing your doing, it's a bit impossible to put a number since everyone has different needs.

Your gonna have to experiment and see how much data you personally will need. If you plan to use the "Dongle" for surfing the internet and watching videos then yes, your going to go through the data super fast.

The best scenario is to ONLY use the Dongle for stealth.

But we have this covered.

Two of our users created files that are of great benefit for using stealth:

AND

Keep in mind that if you want to run multiple accounts, you would not be mucking around with the one ISP. You want to appear as different as you can. You want your stealth work to be easy. Changing MAC can be avoided with the other/better options that exist.

Thanks guys. Greenie in regards to using multiple ISPs, how many accounts do you run on one ISP, just one/2/3/10? How cost effective is this/wouldn't you eventually run out of ISPs to use if you were talking about many accounts? I'm assuming you mean for example to use a T-Mobile Dongle, AT&T Dongle, Verizon Dongle, etc. with a separate ISP dongle for each account/every X number of accounts. Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting. Thanks again, I really appreciate all the knowledge!

As long as your ISP gives you DYNAMIC IP...you would use one IP per account - you keep track of the IP and make sure it does NOT overlap with a previously used IP.

One ISP dongle could give hundreds of IPs so you keep track of the IP used when you log on to an account (IP Burger - Track Your IP Address!)

I understand that part, but Greenie said something about not using the same ISP (Internet Service Provider). What would the advantage to that be beyond just getting access to a larger IP Pool?

I USE ABOUT 10GB a month for 34 ebay accounts. (at Present) I check them all 5 days a week. Costs me about $100 a month.

Using different ISPs allows for larger pool but also less chance of linking IF you don't wish to keep track of IPs.

Other than that...hmm not many other advantages come to mind.
