Re: Just a Heads up
I long ago started using the Amazon method to make my stealth eBay accounts. In fact, I go above and beyond. I always try to eliminate ANY possibility of a link. I use separate PC's, internet connections, I maintain phone numbers that show up as landlines, I use real email providers whenever possible, I change MAC addresses, etc.
Some people tell me it is overkill. And it is true that my methods cost more and can be a pain at times. But I rarely lose accounts and I intend to keep it that way.
Just because eBay/PayPal/Amazon are not using a specific security method TODAY does not mean they will not implement it in the future. And when it happens, we may not have any advance notice to prepare for the change. So, I would rather spend a few extra $$$ now, rather than wait until it is too late to make the change and lose accounts.
People have been talking about "the end of stealth" for years now. But I don't see that actually happening. Yes, they can make it harder, but we will adapt. And while they COULD potentially make it almost impossible, I doubt that will happen because it would stop too many legitimate users from signing up and cost too much money to implement. In the USA we still do not have credit cards with microchips in them like they do in Europe. Why? Because paying the fraud claims is cheaper than replacing all of the cards and equipment. The same thing applies here.
