Default IP query

My IT guy set me up with a IP address to enter in my browser... When it is entered in the address bar of my web browser it takes me directly to the ebay home page and gives a reverse look up of company that hosts email filtering and proxy server that is registered... well not me. According to him the only way he has to give my information to ANYONE is if I the company was contacted by the Feds because of like child porn or something....
Does this sound logical?

Something about 'his' IT guy and a connection made for him?

And that information is not shared to eBay or whatever site unless the 'feds' get you for porn.. lol

How about fraud?

Sounds fishy whatshakin..

All we need is new IP address when it comes to a eBay.

I just want to clarify What my computer person did. It was difficult to explain without using links in the post.
I read the guide and changed all of the information as noted. BUT, I wanted to use multiple ip address information from the same laptop (if possible) so I asked our IT dept, told him exactly why. His initial response was to use dial up... Just like the guide said, but I was looking for a workaround. He explained..
Use your laptop with the changed IP for 1
Buy a 2nd dsl connection (2nd IP)
Remote Desktop to the terminal server (3rd)
Use a Proxy (explained what I read on that)
He said let me show you this. HE logged in to a disabled account for brandx communications on a webserver that they host. Created a Shortcut from that address and gave it to me in the form of a browser log in directly. (just like when you log in to your router) 10.111.ect... When that is entered in the browser the reverse lookup for the host ip address goes back to the domain for brandx communications. In other words... when I access ebay from that port it does not give my ip address but another.
In my post I wondered if anyone had tried this method

That's a VPN connection.

It'll work because you're on a different IP address, but what happens when you need a new IP?

I use my iPhone somewhat in the same way, I tether into it and it gives me a new IP address each time I connect. But for you you'll receive the same IP Address. I guess it's okay for one account.

I hope that answered your question.

Internet capable phones (G1, iPhone, Blackberry, etc) get new IPs all the time. They change on their own, or by resetting them. I use my G1 to access FeeBay directly, and use Auctiva for listing. Using Auctiva avoids the need for a new IP everytime.

Hello,

I wanted to add something to my last post before someone screws themself.

If you are using an internet capable phone to access FeeBay, you still need to perform the other steps outlined in the forum to remove cookies & flash objects. Your internet capable phone is basically a computer, so these steps must be followed as such.

There isn't a flash plug-in for the G1 yet, thus there are no flash objects to be removed. When there is one, it will be an add-on. Therefore; the flash objects should be removable but uninstalling the plug-in, and clearing the saved personal data within the phone. I will post back regarding this once flash has been introduced to the G1, and I have tested it on a G1 that isn't mine.

Although; if your phone does support flash, you will need to find a way to remove them before using this work around.

Right, you have to watch out for the cookies.

I like to tether my iphone instead, and use my laptop for any work I need.
