Default VMWare Workstation Pro 12

Anyone currently running VMWare Workstation 12 from a Microsoft Surface Pro 3? Just curious if these tablets are able to handle the application and run 10-15 virtual machines without bringing the Surface Pro to a crawl and still be able to use it for other things.

I guess it depends on the guest OS you load, and how much resources you assign to it.

I am recently reading here about people trying to get "the definitive PC" to run 10s of virtual machines. I personally do not see the point in doing so.

Unless you have assigned a dedicated VPN for each virtual machine, you are going to have only one machine at the time active and connected to the internet...

Personally I run only 1 machine at the time and it does take me no more than 30 second to switch from one machine to the other (shut down -> start) while changing the IP.

OP might have peculiar needs and reasons to do so but... going "BIG" is not always the best solution.

I agree with what ilcarletto is saying. There's absolutely no reason for you to be running multiple VMs in parallel solely for stealth under any circumstances.

For a more sensible scenario of running just one or two VM in parallel, the Surface Pro 3 will do fine. If you want something crazy like 10-15, you pretty much need to build a server/workstation grade desktop with with at least two physical CPUs and several tens of GB of memory to have decent performances.

Totally agree with icarletto.
If you don't have dedicated VPSs or VPNs -- you just happen to overpay for a high-end and high resource machine.
When you could do just fine with simpler version.

Sorry perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I wouldn't be running all VM's at the same time, possibly 2-3 at max, no more. I would have up to 15 stealth accounts which means I'd have 15 VM's with each stealth account and VM having it's own dedicated VPN.

What I want to do is use VMWare Workstation Pro 12 to manage the 15 stealth accounts on 15 different VM's with each one having it's own VPN. At a given time I might have five VM's running at max, no more, and would simply shut the VM down and start up another one if needed.

Perhaps that helps. I was looking at the Surface Pro 4, but figured if I could go for the cheaper Surface Pro 3 and still be able to use WorkStation Pro 12 then I'd go that route.

Looking for something smaller and compact as I travel a lot and the Surface Pro seemed appealing.

Again it depends on how much CPU/Memory you assign to each VM and what OS they run. I don't believe the surface pro has more than 8 GB of memory

16 GB is the max amount of memory you can get in the Surface Pro 4.

I'd be running Win 10.
