I know the button you are referring too ...

I went in to change my company details (update my mobile number) and after I made the changes the following page asked whether I am VAT registered showing a button to confirm yes or no basically.

Those buttons are just generic they don't do anything as far as I can tell. It's probably just a written confirmation for ebay customer service. So once you click no on that, if you are blocked when you approach customer service via ebay chat they unblock you ?? I'm guessing ... but it could be the case.

I haven't listed any items so I don't know if I am blocked and whether the buttons work i'm not going to take the risk yet ... just going to wait till I am way, way below the threshold before attempting to list any items so I have a ground to stand on when I talk to customer service about getting my account unblocked if it is. I've already opened some new accounts though to avoid this situation in the future and I really need to take better care of monitoring my turnover.

It's a grind as it is already buying and selling. I would have no issues just going full on and becoming VAT registered if it wasn't such a pain in the backside.

My thinking is if you have crossed the 85k line, you have to register for VAT. No matter you wait a month and you are below that under ebay calculations, you exceeded the sales in the period and had to be regisyered. And you had to have the vat number. Its like when you cross the line you can not go back, but to have the number and then deregister when you come back into a small business without vat. You can not play with the vat getti g it on and off each month.

Dude, you're still missing the point

ONE CAN NOT REGISTER FOR VAT IN A STEALTH NAME. The Stealth name and the VAT registration name have to match otherwise it dosent matter and eBay will block it anyway, even if is a real Vat number.

Thats the point of this thread!

You can actually exceed Vat thresholds and apply for an 'exception' if its only a small amount or temporary.

No my friend, think you are not following the question a d answer.
Lesstix wrote about his non stealth acc, and wrote later that he will need to get his first stealth. So for him it is a different situation.
Also the thread title doesnt say that it is for stealth acc and people write about vat issue in general. Each case is different. For stealth i completely understand.
But not people write about stealth and they also deserve an answer dont you think?

Thought it was a Stealth forum not the eBay community forum.

Theres no issue adding VAT numbers to genuine accounts, register for VAT, add number, simple.

The issue is, Stealth account holders cant register for VAT under Stealth names., so I presumed being a Stealth forum, we would discuss the possible workarounds that are needed in this scenario.

In this scenario ebay demanding vat was an issue for all.accounts, not only stealth! Its not so fast to get a vat number. There are also half stealth accounts. And this forum is not only about stealth but about all possible issues on ebay.

All items attract vat, no matter new or used. For used you can use Margin scheme vat, but you Have to get and pay vat for any condition item. Unless it is in exampt list.

Message lesstix received off Ebay:
”You are unable to list new items pending evidence of full compliance with your UK VAT obligations.

Which is either a VAT number or evidence of an exemption certificate. OR if he's below the threshold simply telling them you're backing off from selling so there is no need to register.

Those not on stealth. Basically if you intend to run a business properly and you can feel that your business will surpass the grey area of £85k - 110k ish then you should go full on and become VAT registered. It's only a problem if you think you will be stuck in that grey area as you're basically working for the VAT man and not making anything extra for yourself.

Hi i just got the message removed, the main question they asked was if i have ever been VAT registered on ebay before.

They could be possibly targeting people who have stopped paying VAT, however are still over the VAT threshold.

I am no expert, but I am under the Threshold, but still received this message, so was able to state that fact.

Only my trading name matches ,my VAT details which are linked to a toasted account. I sell 1500 items a week so I found it difficult juggling accounts.

I'm just hoping Ebay aren't going to go round manually checking people's VAT details and linking them to old toasted accounts, especially if you have a good selling record on the new account. I can't see the business sense.

However, I have created some fresh accounts as a back up, but its going to take 6-12 months to build the limits up to the account I have now

Hi INDIE, i am in the exact situation as yourself i too have a VAT number which is at my address which is linked to a toasted acc, Ebay have restricted my account i cannot update listings or add new listings, just want to know how you got on when you did add the VAT number - is the acc still running and did you experience any problems?

I got the message yesterday. Gutted, nearly cried.

I managed to get the block removed today. I am not entirely how long it will last, but its off at the moment. Im reducing sales to bring my threshold down in the meantime

And this is why I haven't even bothered selling on the account anymore as I know after a few listings the block will come in to force just as it has with many of you.

What did you photoshop to get the account back ? exemption certificate ? letter from an accountant ? PM please if you don't want to share here.

Mine also disappeared before the 30 days were even up, i can verify you are NOT losing the plot, i don't know why it has happened on some accounts and not others though.

This has happened to me also.

I am still over the threshold by 1.5k

As far as I know I am not blocked yet (haven't tried listing anything, but no additional emails received mentioning blocks). But at the same time ... so weren't many of the other sellers until the first few items were listed, then they got the message when they tried listing again.

I think it's best just to completely abandon the account to bring it back down to near 0. I don't want to start feeding customer service BS to try and get it back, it's out of my comfort zone.
