Default eBay to stop using PayPal

“We will start managing payments on the marketplace in the UK in 2020. This means we'll be managing the payments experience end-to-end for buyers on the platform. As a seller, your sales transaction funds will be paid directly to your bank account and no longer into your PayPal account. The majority of UK business sellers will be expected to enable their account for managed payments by the end of this year.“

Many banks are going to stop mis-matched names too.... does this spell trouble....

I am not too worried about finding ways around it.

I am worried about the interruption to my business. Can't lose revenue while I figure it all out. I want a seamless transition.

It definitely does spell trouble, I've just read the email as well, its earlier than I thought it would be. Essentially, it takes someone running a legit account to click the enlist early button to see what processes are required.

However, you can change your name on eBay accounts, so there is this as an option, but it's difficult to gain any real insight as I don't have a genuine selling account.

Very worried, must admit.

I read that Ebay managed payments will take 2-4 biz days to hit your bank, which could mean they will use BACS, which are inelligible for "Confirmation of Payee System(banks enforcing matching names)"

To get paid, you’ll need to add a bank account to your eBay seller account. You’ll get paid directly to your bank account, regardless of which payment option the buyer selects. If you sell daily, you will receive regular payouts into your bank account. From your bank account, you can access your funds directly. There’s no need to transfer funds between accounts. Depending on your bank, you can typically expect payouts to be sent to your bank account within 2-4 business days of an order confirmation. We aim to pay you as fast as possible, but are dependent on the credit card brands (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) and banks for payout processing and timely funds settlement. We are currently looking into ways for our sellers to have more options and faster access to their funds.

So even if the buyer chooses PayPal , essentially they are paying into eBays PayPal, who will then give it to you, eventually..?

Etsy already use managed payments and I like it if I am being completely honest. All fee's, postage labels etc everything is taken out of my etsy account and whatever is left over is transferred to my bank at the end of the week.

It's my "personal" ebay accounts I am worried about which have phantom details.

My business account has my business name / address. So that will be fine as I will just use my business bank account.

But what about my personal accounts ...

The buyer will have MANY options to pick from. They probably won't even need to make an ebay account.

All the money goes to ebays bank ...

They then disburse the funds to you at whatever day of the week you choose. With etsy it's at the end of the week for me. But you can request funds sooner.

Basically ebay are handling everything with no paypal in the mix. So when you ring CS to discuss an issue it's all sorted in house. They can't blame paypal and paypal can't blame ebay.

I am now wondering what was the point in trying so hard to establish my stealth paypal accounts this year ...

I don't think it will work at all.

I am going to try using my real information on a stealth account when the account is forced to enrol to see whether ebay are OK with letting me stay on the platform.

If not i'm screwed and the account is toast ... but it's better to try that than to abandon it altogether.

Just received it too with my UK stealths. Business accounts can still be doable since you can change the details, and match it to the bank details.
Personal accounts - i do not know yet. Maybe upgrade them to a business later?
Good thing is I still have some other non-US or UK accounts, i can make use of them. I believe they are not hitting them yet with managed payments.

There's an instance that i changed the ebay details to one of our staffs, they just requested some proof of ownership of the account, and they let us change the details. So it should be doable with this managed payment (mismatched names is the topic)

But its very likely that eBay will use confirmation of payee, meaning your real name needs to be used on eBay or else the payment won't go through

International payments are excluded from confirmation of payee for now, so maybe if you have a US ebay, and a UK bank, then the name won't need to match.

Yes i think that other smaller Ebay marketplaces will be much slower to catch on with managed payments
