eBay to stop using PayPal

“We will start managing payments on the marketplace in the UK in 2020. This means we'll be managing the payments experience end-to-end for buyers on the platform. As a seller, your sales transaction funds will be paid directly to your bank account and no longer into your PayPal account. The majority of UK business sellers will be expected to enable their account for managed payments by the end of this year.“

Many banks are going to stop mis-matched names too.... does this spell trouble....

Re: eBay to stop using PayPal

I am not too worried about finding ways around it.

I am worried about the interruption to my business. Can't lose revenue while I figure it all out. I want a seamless transition.

It definitely does spell trouble, I've just read the email as well, its earlier than I thought it would be. Essentially, it takes someone running a legit account to click the enlist early button to see what processes are required.

However, you can change your name on eBay accounts, so there is this as an option, but it's difficult to gain any real insight as I don't have a genuine selling account.

Very worried, must admit.

Re: eBay to stop using PayPal

I read that Ebay managed payments will take 2-4 biz days to hit your bank, which could mean they will use BACS, which are inelligible for "Confirmation of Payee System(banks enforcing matching names)"

To get paid, you’ll need to add a bank account to your eBay seller account. You’ll get paid directly to your bank account, regardless of which payment option the buyer selects. If you sell daily, you will receive regular payouts into your bank account. From your bank account, you can access your funds directly. There’s no need to transfer funds between accounts. Depending on your bank, you can typically expect payouts to be sent to your bank account within 2-4 business days of an order confirmation. We aim to pay you as fast as possible, but are dependent on the credit card brands (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) and banks for payout processing and timely funds settlement. We are currently looking into ways for our sellers to have more options and faster access to their funds.

So even if the buyer chooses PayPal , essentially they are paying into eBays PayPal, who will then give it to you, eventually..?

Re: eBay to stop using PayPal

Etsy already use managed payments and I like it if I am being completely honest. All fee's, postage labels etc everything is taken out of my etsy account and whatever is left over is transferred to my bank at the end of the week.

It's my "personal" ebay accounts I am worried about which have phantom details.

My business account has my business name / address. So that will be fine as I will just use my business bank account.

But what about my personal accounts ...

How many personal accounts you have?

The buyer will have MANY options to pick from. They probably won't even need to make an ebay account.

All the money goes to ebays bank ...

They then disburse the funds to you at whatever day of the week you choose. With etsy it's at the end of the week for me. But you can request funds sooner.

Basically ebay are handling everything with no paypal in the mix. So when you ring CS to discuss an issue it's all sorted in house. They can't blame paypal and paypal can't blame ebay.

I am now wondering what was the point in trying so hard to establish my stealth paypal accounts this year ...

I don't think it will work at all.

I am going to try using my real information on a stealth account when the account is forced to enrol to see whether ebay are OK with letting me stay on the platform.

If not i'm screwed and the account is toast ... but it's better to try that than to abandon it altogether.

Just received it too with my UK stealths. Business accounts can still be doable since you can change the details, and match it to the bank details.
Personal accounts - i do not know yet. Maybe upgrade them to a business later?
Good thing is I still have some other non-US or UK accounts, i can make use of them. I believe they are not hitting them yet with managed payments.

Good thing is I still have some Canada and AU eBay accounts, i can make use of them. I believe they are not hitting them yet with managed payments.

That could definitely be an option.

Dang! I stopped using USA accounts for a long time due to this feature.
Now it will be implemented in the UK too

There's an instance that i changed the ebay details to one of our staffs, they just requested some proof of ownership of the account, and they let us change the details. So it should be doable with this managed payment (mismatched names is the topic)

But its very likely that eBay will use confirmation of payee, meaning your real name needs to be used on eBay or else the payment won't go through

International payments are excluded from confirmation of payee for now, so maybe if you have a US ebay, and a UK bank, then the name won't need to match.

Yes i think that other smaller Ebay marketplaces will be much slower to catch on with managed payments

I think they do it all automatically like when you apply for a loan.

I have never used Etsy before but have a shop now so it's not stealth but a real account. They have never asked for ID's or bank statements or anything. Just my real information sufficed.

So essentially, Stealth accounts will be screwed then? I know you keep mentioning your real account, but being a Stealth forum, primarily Stealth Account users are the majority, and thus the ones that will be impacted.

Maybe it will make me get off my ass and work harder for the next year😅

I think there will be workarounds and loopholes, but will certainly be harder

I know right. Need the house paid for by the end of the year and job done which is doable :)

There are some workaround possibilities, I've been mulling it over. I am thinking of sacrificing an old account that got PP limited to test the system. I was keeping it in reserve till we figured out this Managed Payments, but it could be worth a sacrifice.

If you don't do it, somebody else will. Expect results asap. I may sacrifice one of mine.

I just realised something else. Bank accounts that we inititally wrote off as they were burnt in paypal can now be re-used in managed payments.

Ebay has never asked the id’s. so I think there will be way around. My citizenship was different when I opened Ebay account 10 years ago.
I will try with new citizenship and my name on new passport is a little different as well.

Yeah I think it needs to be done ASAP really.

You know full well the mods and accounts sellers are already on it, and they wont share the info on the forum, it will be a new section in the marketplace 'Managed Returns Solution' £200.

There is also the option of changing the name on the ebay account to someone real, and then using there BA's. Ive done it for adding new PP to old account etc and its been fine, touch wood.

I imagine many are as well..Most Stealthers live in a world of constant stress..wondering if we will wake up to a limited PP or a suspended eBay, or customs charges for undeclaring shipments etc..so this is a big old head spinning stress! Hence why there are four panicked threads on top of each other as people didnt read the forum in a state of stress and fear :)

Another thought.... will eBay ask for ID on new accounts when hitting the €2500 limit ? Or will that limit no longer exist now that the UK is out of the EU ?
