Default whatsmyip dongle customer number WARNING

has anyone notices on certain mobile dongles if you look on whatsmyip >more info about you> hostname, it then can give customer mumber of your dongle!!! or part of your postcode (the real one you registered with)!!!

WARNING check your dongles if making mult accounts, I will have to put these two in the bin

ok Ive edited what I said as Ive done about 5 more tests.

no the custmer number changes phew, but it sticks, really sticks, I had to use cc cleaner even though I had disconnected dongle as site was remembering old info.

ok one thing I have noticed IS NOT changing is first 2 letters of postcode, is constant. So although map is all over the place (which is agood thing for some) the hostname seems to create a link.

Everyone check the hostname and report back. I am not saying which one is defective, right now, want feedback first.

best way to test clearly is to note IP , then change IP and copy old IP in to trace box

not as bad as I thought, will route around in bin and retrieve said dongles, yuk

Its like an id string, a bit like headers in emails

i noticed this last week on my broadband but my customer number charges when i change the mac on my router.

this lead me to ponder 3 things though, does it genuine change, did it change because when i changed the mac it issued me an ip belonging to another local broadband account with the same ISP(one that could be banned on bay and pal), also i made me wonder if isp's are sharing information in anyway.

does what genuinely change? the IP, yes it does. What we are discussing is the other info regardless of IP remaining. Yes Im already on to that thought, about changing mac. What a pain though, another thing to think about. The customer number is changing on mine, however I dont know how many combinations there are, I will update upon further tests. The post code 2 letters is remaining AFAICS

yes i know what you are saying like i said i already come across this .

cpc3-leeds1-0-0-cust207.leeds.cable.ISP.com

change mac or ip

cpc3-leeds1-0-0-cust147.leeds.cable.ISP.com

No matter what i do i can never get the cpc3 to change, maybe this is the real identifier.

when this happens it is like your getting another REAL customer account number so to speak - what if they have been banned from bay or pp that would probably make me toast and i don't think its any different for dongles or phones

PS did you take a look at the whios look up on you at the same time

ok tizwoz that is one one of my dongles, says different customer number each time but always says eg Leeds. Another one does first 2 letter of postcode eg. NW...must be mast location. Unless you travel about that wont change if you are working from home.

whos looking at you? yup, seen it, cant make head nor tail of it .....

You get a good deal on broadband with your sky package, and the broadband, gives you a lovely wide range on hostname, with no pinpointing, plus the map is never anywhere near home and always changes, I used to have virgin same thing....
