Default Entropay being charged in Euros

I have just recently started to use entropay and have one registered on one of my p/p accounts.

Made a couple of purchases and on each occasion p/p have charged the card an amount in euros and then converted this to sterling.

Having not used them before is this normal or am I missing something with the way the accounts are set up?

Both e/p and p/p are UK and both fully verified and the purchases have been from UK based seller charging in £. Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Maybe when you set your EP, you set the currency to Euro. Check your EP account and you would know

No it's in Sterling. I emailed e/p and they confirmed that it's Pounds not Euros and suggested I contact p/p and ask them why they are charging it in Euros.

Not sure best course of action as the account is fairly new and not had this on any previous ones. The only thing different is that I used e/p this time and not the usual prepaid cards I'd used before on other accounts.

As far as e/p are concerned everything is as it should be their end so it's definitely a p/p issue but why I don't have a clue.

Yes, exactly that. Why is that normal when the e/p card's default currency is £s, it shouldn't be charged in euros. It doesn't make any sense.

Maybe, but according to e/p the default currency on my account is Sterling so as far as they are concerned all transactions in £ should be charged to the card in £.

Weird! It just makes me wonder if everything is as it should be with p/p.

What type of paypal account do you have?

One personal account is in US dollars with entropay (older account c.2008)

Premier & business accounts are in Sterling (all made from 2008 to October 2011)

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this?

When I paid for an item using eB checkout, the price was then set in Euros after entering in the E/P card details.

Eventually i got the seller's direct PP email address and paid from within PP in sterling, yet when I looked at the payment in E/P, the payment was some £25 more expensive! When asking why, E/P informed me the payment went out in Euros... therefore a ****ty exchange rate on a £400 transaction.

Any idea what is going on with this? It adds yet another 6% on to transactions, on top of the 5% top-up fee !

Thinking about it, it also explains why my MetroBank card always fails when making payments via P/P - my card doesn't accept foreign currency transactions.

It has caused PP accounts to be shut down in the past (non-stealth, ebay buying only) which has then lead to unpaid item strikes and loosing out on potential profit making of £hundreds !

Hey, I recently came across the same problem your experiencing and found that the following steps avoid the p/ent currency fees.

-when you go to purchase something on the paypal checkout pages. Select your entropay card.

-Under the card click 'other conversion options'

-Click 'Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice.'

Then the card changes from euros to £ and no conversion fees are charged. It even saves this setting for future purchases.
