I've got a rubbish credit history and been turned down trying to open a couple of accounts now. So I'm looking for a way to get around credit checks. Can you point me in a direction?
Thanks

Every High St bank offers basic accounts which do not require credit checks, only ID verification.

The only bank to avoid is Lloyds, not good for stealth

So really just hit the streets with all ID in order and some are bound to work? I'm not on an electoral roll anywhere.

As long as you can provide photo ID i.e. dl or passport and proof of address i.e. utility, phone or council tax bill then you will find a bank to help you out.

N.B. only ask to open a basic account not a current account.

Hello

i checked them out sometime ago and it was a no go

Why

Well because they operated like a local credit union bnk account, not possible to add then because of technical reasons, that i could go in to but don't see the point.

However, A tusted member of the forum who is not on here so much these days made a thread stating things had changed.

saying that since then , i have checked them out and for me , things where still the same, NO GO .

So it would be intresting to see if anyone one is using with sucsess.

Just to back up none other,

he/she from what i have read latley gives really good and consistanat adivse so take as gospel and interagate lol

Hi, I have used a Santander basic bank account and had no problems with it. I opened a Natwest basic account last Thursday, online application and it took 10 minutes. I used my passport to verify my I.D. by inputting the number. At the end of the process I had the account number and sort code. The visa debit card for it arrived yesterday! I went to Barclays and they are really only want to push other accounts on you. You need to insist that you want a basic bank account and tell them you have had money problems and you want benefits your benefits paid in. They want to do a review with you that takes an hour though. All the banks want you to book an appointment it seems so don't expect to just go in and get it opened straight away.
I have also been told that the Co-op will be a good option for a basic account too and they just need to do an I.D. check. I will be trying them next week. I have also completed an online application with Halifax and they will let me know by post in about a week, so I guess they do other checks on you as well as the basic I.D. check.
I hope all this helps someone. I am just getting as much done now so I will be ready to get back on there.

If you apply for a basic account with any bank the only checks they carry out ar ID and address verification, nothing else.

Some of them just take longer than others to process applications hence the delay with some.

Listen to the advice of more experienced members here.

If they say there are issues then there are issues, they're not making it up for the sake of it.

Why waste your time, use recommended options. It will make your stealth life so much easier.

Isn't that why you joined the forum?

Good for you.

And did you also check that the OP was referring to Card One UK ?

If you are looking at US based banks, the case will be different.

Just done some tests with Card One...

Hit a stumbling block with paypal's new 1p code verification system. The 1p is showing in my Card One account, however 7 days later still no sign of the code.
