Default eBay managed returns

Hello all

Got an email from eBay just now with seller updates for the future, and one of the points that worries me a little is that apparently managed returns will gradually become compulsory for all sellers. Does anyone know how to best tie this in with providing a return address that isn't the one listed on eBay ?

Thanks

Oliver

Assuming OP got this email - Edited it a bit as eBay has a habit of just repeating themselves in emails. 5 main points our outlined.

BUSINESS SELLER NEWS

Spring 2014

New opportunities ahead. Make them yours.

The future of online shopping will be excellent customer service, combined with an inspiring and personalised shopping experience. And we’re making changes to support you in delivering that vision so you’re in the best position to benefit.

Prepare your business now for the changes introduced in this seller news and make the most of the new opportunities ahead.

New performance measurement to reward excellent service

We’ve conducted extensive research to better understand what motivates our buyers, and what drives them away. By measuring millions of transactions, we’ve identified what’s important for buyers and what impacts their decision to buy again, buy more frequently, or stop buying on eBay.

Based on these findings, we’re changing your seller standards from August by introducing a new performance measurement. This will help your business continue to grow by making sure we’re providing buyers the retail-like shopping experience that will keep them coming back.

1- New seller standards

Your projected seller level is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Now
Familiarise yourself with the new performance measurements and begin making any necessary changes to meet them before they come into effect from 20 August.

From 16 April
Use the new Seller Dashboard preview to see how your eBay business is performing against the new measurements.

20 August
Your first evaluation cycle with the new measurements will come as usual on 20 August, taking into account the look-back period relevant to your account.

2 - Create inspiring collections for buyers to follow and share

The eBay shopping experience has evolved. Create inspiring collections, take advantage of the revamped eBay profile and let buyers follow you and even share on social media.

From Spring Create inspiring collections of eBay items.

Take advantage of the revamped profile page to promote your brand.

3 - Changes to fees for business sellers

From 15 April, we're making changes to Shop subscriptions, introducing changes to final value fees in some Home & Garden and Lifestyle categories and fees may now apply if you end an auction early. Plus, we’re making feature fee changes and making Supersize free of charge.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Now
Subscribe to the right level of Shop for your business to make the most of the improvements. If you don’t already have an eBay Shop, find out about the benefits of Shop subscriptions and decide if this might be an option for you.

If you sell in Home & Garden categories, make sure you’re familiar with the changes to final value fees.

To make the most of Supersize becoming free, check that your pictures meet our picture standards. Consider upgrading your pictures to a minimum of 800 pixels on the longest side.

From 15 April
The new fee structure applies on eBay.co.uk for all new listings or Good ‘Til Cancelled listings that have been renewed.

4 - Managed returns: new requirements and enhancements

The managed returns process makes it easy to automate and complete returns quickly without the usual admin. From autumn 2014, we’re introducing some enhancements: additional coverage through Royal Mail, increased seller protection from abusive buyer behaviour and direct integration of managed returns with third-party listing tools.

This will gradually become a requirement for all sellers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Now
If you haven’t already opted in, consider opting in now to benefit from managed returns.

If you use a third-party listing tool, find out when managed returns will be integrated and then opt in.

Watch out for emails with information about the new requirement to use managed returns.

5 - Promotions Manager free for all Shop subscribers

Now all eBay Shop subscribers can help boost sales and attract new buyers by offering special discounts, merchandising and cross-selling offers. This tool is currently free for Featured and Anchor Shop subscribers and, from 15 April, we’re including it in Basic Shop subscriptions too.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Now
If you currently have a Featured or Anchor Shop subscription and you haven’t tried the Promotions Manager tool, we’d recommend you give your business a boost and enable Promotions Manager for your Shop.

If you don’t already have a Shop subscription, learn more about opening a Shop and consider whether this might be right for your business.

From 15 April
Basic Shop subscribers can start using the Promotions Manager tool.

It is not conpulsary yet, but it will be eventually.

I dont always use addresses I have access to, so I am hoping there is a workaround.

One of the STELLAR workarounds is use an address you can access.

A return address that you have access to can be added at anytime.

Is there a hidden meaning or do you simply mean change the address?

No hidden meaning, you can add an additional address at any time to an account specifically for returns.

As simple as it seems.

You can add any addresses you want to an account, people do move homes. Do not re-add a linked address though.

Would it be acceptable to add an address such as a mailbox to the account, just for returns, even if it's several counties away? You could argue it's a specialised returns depot etc?

Thanks

There is no issue with hindsight.

You are now in the PRESENT looking to the FUTURE.

Solution?????

an accessible address to be added carefully.

This will gradually become a requirement for all sellers.

I do wonder who these idiot buyers are that are answering these questionnaires.

three options that I can think of

Full refund
Mail box or PO Box of some sort

Or a work around of your address.
