Iv just had a customer buy a item and immediately ask me to refund them as they did not read the item description correctly. Now does this count as a cancelled transaction which would get me a 'defect' transaction?

Iv had similar cases in the past when I have refunded the customer it does not necessarily mean you were out of stock or the customer was unhappy just simple mistakes but am I right in thinking these situations will be looked on in a negative light now?

Also is it against ebays rules to ask customers if they would be willing to do a bank transfer instead of through PayPal then you could refund them in cases like this without eBays knowledge?

then they could go back to ebay and say they have not received a refund or item and you pay them back twice.

What does the drop down options offer for cancelling a transaction or reasons for refund?

Yes I suppose if you had a customer who was being unreasonable this could happen
