How to change IP address on BT boardband and Virgin

Hi How can I have 2 accounts running on 2 different laptops, with 2 different IP address. Ive got BT business broadband at work, and Virgin boardband at home. So is there a way to constantly change the IP address, or hidden. Is there a device I can buy from PC world, that can do this automatically each time.

Please advise on how best I can do this

Just buy a dongle for one of them.

Check the big stores like tesco and Asda first, as they have some good deals.

Resetting the router changes the IP with BT broadband.

Not sure regarding Virgin.

Record your IP by visiting IPBurger.com. Reset the router. Go back to IPBurger.com and record the IP again. If it's changed you are good to go.

With my home bt broadband I have option to login to bt hotspot which is different IP address every time I log in - I haven't set up my account yet and hoping this will work as dongle is no good where I live.

i run virgin and when my router modem is rebooted it does NOT change the IP address.
i find the simplest ans most effective way is to use a broadband dongle which gives me a new IP address everytime. plus other advantages.

for me to get a new IP my modem router must present a different MAC address to virgin.

what i do is just use the virgin modem router as a modem only, then from the modem to a d-link dir-615 wifi router. i can then clone a mac address of my choice on the dlink.

if you can do all this fine , if not get a broadband dongle.

Also im a cheapskate and i have a number of mobidata sim cards each which give me 100mb of data free per month for 3 months. when they run out im happy to pay £10 a month for mobile data if i need it.

I have unlimited tethering on 3 network for £20 on a rolling month
but they have ended the deal now

I dont think 100mb would last uploading pictures from camera to photobucket
from photobucket to ebay

You just need to unplug and replugin your router, and it will change the IP. Easy as pie.

stevebills are you using virgin ?? and does it actually change your IP every time ?


mine doesn't and if i change it myself more than 3 times in 24 hours it fills up a hosts table at virgin ?? which mean i have to call virgin

well if i have 4 dongles which i have picked up cheap along the way. eachwitha 100mb free

well i use auctiva to list stuff so my only access required to ebay or paypal is limited

another way is to set your virgin modem as modem only.

i have a usb to network socket 10 /100 it has its own mac address. connect cable from modem into the usb/netw adapter and put into a usb socket on pc or laptop. rebooot modem then reboot pc/laptop. the adapter has a different MAC address so it get issued a new ip address. of course use different user id on your pc/laptop. voila new ip but one of three from virginper day. record the ip address and the mac address of the adapter (at a command prompt type getmac )

I have BT fiber optic and I use a T Mobile dongle to change my IP. I have 2 of them and they give a new IP every time I log out and back in.

I live in an area with s__t mobile reception but I get a good speed from the dongles - enough to upload big pics. BT was down for 3 hours last week so I used one of my dongles.

If you use BT Fon you will also get a IP address that is different from your normal BT one - at least I do.

I never had a problem and have left Virgin now and tether off my mobile for all my internet and saves me £600 a year
like I said tether off a mobile or get a dongle if u having problems

i use firefox and it boots up to a the IPBurger page showing my IP

I've never had a problem with Virgin in the past, we're going back a few years though so maybe things have changed..used to get a new IP every time!

i have been monitoring my IP address religiously for the last 3 years and it stays the same unless i present a different mac address or it expires after 8 days through not connecting holidays etc.

If you've got the Super Hub you're gonna run into problems, VERY limited features, cannot change the routers MAC address or IP address.

I suggest using the Super Hub in modem mode & using a different router.

yes i agree

i have a couple of d-link dir-615 routers with dd-wrt for my networ and cloning a new mac address is so easy .
