Default UK - Virgin Media - banned

Hi there,

Ive read a fair few posts and gained a some info but really wanted to double check on a positive course of action to get me selling again.

I had an initial eBay account that got suspended because a manufacturer claimed I was selling non genuine goods when I wasnt. Despite the manufacturer retracting the claim, eBay refuse to reverse the decision and no matter how much I try to explain or plead, the people at eBay dont help.

As a consequence I then used my wife's account to sell items. Its worth mentioning that I chose to not sell those items that were misjudged as non genuine and was happily selling normal AV/IT equipment to the value of £5000 per week with good feedback. This continued for approx 6 months until out of the blue, got a message saying my selling limits had been taken away as my wifes account had been linked to the original account. I presume it was to do with matching the IPs, account addresses, transferring money between Paypal accounts etc.

I have just 1 account running now which is my business account. It is linked to my original name and address and have been running it from the same IP as the other 2 accounts that have selling restrictions.... common sense says that its only a matter of time before this is restricted too.

When I had 2 accounts functioning fully I was listing over £100k so am trying to pre-empt having £50k of stock and no ebay account to sell it on!

I am trying to get some advice on the best way to proceed really.

I think my biggest issue is the IP address change. Virgin Media doesnt seem to change the IP when simply resetting the router. How is best to get this sorted? I have seen the info on dongles but my worry is that if I set up a new account, I will need to upload loads of listings at some point so wonder the speed and capacity will be an issue.

I could use my dads account but once again, if I start selling using his account at my home, it will flag the IP of the existing account that is most def linked to the accounts that have been suspended.

I can easily set up a new bank account under a new business name but have the issue that my personal details/ address and IP (once again) will be linked to my current account.

Apologies for covering off a fair amount but help would be very much appreciated. Ideally would love a unit that just changes the IP at the touch of a button!!!

If you've an iPhone you can tether with that or grab a dongle (3 mobile works perfect for stealth)

With that kind of volume, your going to NEED multiple accounts.

After 12 months, you'll have plenty of high limit accounts.

Good luck.

You could use the dongle just to set up the accounts and doing your on ebay paypal stuff and also set up an Auctiva account.
Then you could just use Auctiva on your virgin media router for listing

Thanks for the replies.

Wouldnt the dongle be slow if wanting to add listings?

I called Virgin this morning and they are sending me a Super Hub 2 as was just using a standard Netgear before.

I was thinking of turning my current router off for a week as ive heard that Virgin issue a new IP if the connection has been lost over 7 days.

That way I could set up the new router under a new IP and start with a new account.

My only issue then is that my current working account wouldnt be accessible at home. I guess I could find a local coffee shop with free wireless but would be a hassle.

I see a few people have recommended buying a VPS service? I wonder if this is an option to look at. In the long run I guess I want multiple accounts to cover future closures and enable me to sell the amounts I need to quickly. Has anyone experience of buying accounts on here as that may be a quicker alternative if safe?

Really annoying as one small mistake seems to limit my ability to sell anything on Ebay - why the hell hasnt a big company tried to rival Ebay!!!

When you get the SH2 just follow the instructions in the thread I linked you to and you will have total control with RE to generating a new IP. It also possible to retrieve a previously used IP which is very handy.

Do not use public WiFi. You do not know who else has used it before you.

A dongle is another option, and so long as you have decent network coverage speed should not be an issue.

VPS is not really needed in your situation. A lot of much better options available.

Huawei Dongle is great, mine is faster than my home broadband in fact! I'm always plugging that little Huawei on here, they are seriously good. They have an on/off button too, so just turn it off, back on and you have a new IP. It's wireless too, so not actually connected to your PC, great little things, approx £50.

3 mobile do a 3 month Data Only SIM, £22 ish on eBay and that will last me for 3 months of normal eBay usage.

Hope that helps.

Great - is there a specific model you would recommend i.e capacity? I presume you just need 1 dongle and that would cover multiple accounts?

Thanks again

Also, thanks James....I will make a point of following your advice ref the SH2. Would you have any recommendations on what additional router/ hub that needs to accompany the SH2?

Thanks

Huawei E5331 MiFi is a pretty good model. It can be used via wireless so no need to have it plugged into your laptop all the time. Resets at the touch of a button.

Netgear WRG614 works a treat for me.

Thanks very much - I guess you just get the dongle and subscribe to someone like 3 with a data allowance? I see they do a few packages, starting at 1GB then 5GB....15GB etc.

Any advice on what capacity would do the job?

Thanks

It depends on what you want to use the dongle for. If it is just eBay then 1/2GB per month should do the trick nicely.

I buy £10 topup every month.
I have t-mobile dongle too and I got 6 month free internet for £20.
These 2 are great for stealth.
Now I'm looking for a 3rd dongle. I have wifi at my home but I don't know how to change the Ip. By the way it's virgin. :(

Have a look at the link I have posted in post #2 on this thread.

It gives you a step by step guide in how to get a new IP address with virgin as an ISP

Thanks, does the 1GB capacity at £10.87/ month (24 month contract) sound like good value?

For my BT home broadband I just have to switch it off at the wall, and when it comes back on it has a new IP.. I used that method at the start but now I have the Huawei instead and the home broadband just stays separate to stealth.

Too risky with other household members that could use it whilst you are logged into stealth accounts.

Great - think I will go with the 1GB offer unless others can recommend another option. I suppose its not worth changing the IP of my current router until my current account (which is most def flagged) is suspended. Hopefully by then I will have built up the other accounts to transfer over the items I want to sell.

On a separate note....when setting up the new accounts....I will have completely different bank accounts and business names but wont I have to put in my personal details and address which will be linked to the suspended accounts?

You only enter your stealth details on your PP account.

PP cannot see any of the details linked to your bank account unless they try to draw from the bank account. Don't let that happen.

No. You cannot reuse any information linked to an old EB/PP.

Everything must be new
