Default Does canceling a eBay transaction really damage your eBay ratings?

Basically a buyer has not paid for a ebay item I listed. Now I want to know what's the best way of canceling this transaction without affecting my Seller Dashboard.

I could do

I'm out of stock or can't fulfill order.

or

The buyer asked to cancel the order.

But I heard this affects the dashboard rating on both of these. Unless I'm mistaken .

Or the other choice is put a unclaimed payment.

What's the best thing to do with out affecting my ratings ?

File an unpaid item case because that is what it is. This causes you no harm at all and maybe you will even get paid.

Never do any of the others for an unpaid item. Not sure why you would want to cancel an order at all.

You could just leave things as they are after going for the unpaid item choice, then just relist your item digzz, no particular need to cancel the transaction.

So you file an unpaid item. He cant leave feedback that way and you endure no harm to your account.
Any other option CAN causes you issues and you still pay fees..

He can then decide to pay and then leave you negative feedback if he wishes, can he not?

com pared to not paying and leaving negative feedback?
A little confused.
It sounds like they buyer does not want the item. Only two logical options, buyer agrees to cancel the transaction and that requires cooperation from the buyer or an unpaid item case that does not. If buyer cancels he can still leave feedback. In the unpaid item case, odds are the buyer will not pay seeing as they do not want the item and fees get removed and buyer can not leave feedback.

Or do absolutely nothing, risk getting feedback and scores and pay fees.

The buyer may not like the idea of getting a 'blackmark' against his name as a non-payer, which is what would happen if such a case was opened. Depending on the items cost he may decide to pay for the item to avoid such an occurrence and either a) keep it and give you a negative, or b) get it, return it for refund, and then give you a negative.

Highly unlikely but ya never know for sure. I have dealt with many thousands of unpaid item cases. I don't think a single person has paid who did not intend to.

I agree with Yankee.
The chance of someone paying money for an item he doesnt want just to be able to leave a negative feedback sound a bit far fetched. Not a likely scenario.
Opening the unpaid case is the logical thing to do. Do it and relist your item and that will be the end of it.

If you guys think it unlikely then you don't understand the British psyche. It is common to find people who would be happy to lose a couple of quid to f### someone up if they felt hard done by.

In my experience it does not happen.
If you are talking about a couple dollars this thread is pointless to begin with.

From my experience - only orders canceled because "seller is out of stock or can't fulfill order for another reason" will affect your metrics. I didn't see other cancelations on my defect report. But who knows..maybe I missed something...
