Default Ebay UK holds funds for EVERY return opened?

Sold something to a UK buyer. He opened up a return, for buyers remorse. Clearly states this in his message. Said sorry and that he made a mistake and would like me to get him a different part in exchange. So why the hell is ebay holding my $200?!?! They've put me in the negative and I can't ship anything now. Bunch of Aholes. I've been selling for years. I'm not trustworthy enough? A buyer can open a return, and before you even get the product back, you're out the total amount of the item, for as long as the return process takes, even if you've already spent it, and are in the negative?

yep sadly its always worked like this. When a buyer opens a dispute, the funds get held to reserve in case they decide in the buyers favour.

As you are in communication with this buyer already. Persuade him to close the return request and deal with it in a civil manner. Let him understand it will leave a negative effect on your account just for opening a return request and you want to avoid that consequence. If he agrees and close the request then your fund should be available instantly.

One the return is opened, defect stays, no matter how the matter is settled (i.e closed by the buyer) etc.

Damage is done. Ebay has ruined good customer service. Once they have opened a case, I take as long as possible to deal with them.
