Default Dongle questions

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, or if it's in the wrong category.

I've never used a dongle before, and was considering switching to using dongles for my stealths to cut down on time spend changing over via my router.

So,

1. Do dongles generally keep to the same IP addresses (thinking of vodaphone and 3 networks)

2. If they do keep to the same IP's, is there a way to change or refresh the dongle IP if a stealth gets closed, or is that dongle now a piece of junk?

Basically I'm looking at Uswitch and they say its a 12 month contract, I would hate to be stuck with a dongle I can't use if a stealth gets shut down.

Alternatively I think the cheapest I found was a 14.99 PAYG dongle with no contract, again would hate to throw away 15 quid if that stealth fails.

Really? That seems like a bad idea for stealth then, would you not risk your IP clashing with another stealther's on your network?

You get a Fresh IP almost everytime you plug in the dongle.

Simply unplug it, wait a second, then plug it back in for a new ip.

So yuo can use just one dongle for all your stealths then? Or is there something with the dongle that means you can be linked between accounts still?

It sounds like the set up I have is better, I can retain the same IP every time i switch, it just takes about 10 mins to do the switch over for each one.

you don't need one Ip for one account, I use one dongle for multiple accounts without any issues. Sometimes I log in one account with 10 different ip the same day

One dongle is fine to use on multiple accounts.

Its good practice to record your ip everytime you login. So you dont use the same ip on different accounts.

I use the 3 dongle and it was pretty cheap and I just top it up monthly for however much data you want, works well!

How weird, well thank you for the info guys, seems like it might be an option for future stealths but I think I prefer the method I have at the moment!

So are you saying that if the IP changes on the account it's not an issue and won't result in PayPal limiting the account ?

Dongles are the easiest things to use.....
1. Plug it in, Use Ebay/PP
2. Unplug for a few seconds
3. Plug back in and off to next account

I don't think it gets easier than that.

But don't forget to track your IP addresses.

what is the point of tracking your ip when you use a dongle? there are thousands other users who might be using the same ip for other ebay accounts.

I've often wondered this. I assume it is because your IP address is not enough to link accounts, but if your account gets looked over manually and your IP addresses AND something else matches another account then boom - accounts gone.

For sure, IP only is not enough to link accounts

I use different IP all the time - making sure not to overlap - keeping cookies in place is key as well

Does anyone have any experience (UK Based) the in the difference between dongle use and phone tethering - I have an Iphone 5S and on the few times I have had to use this instead of my BB listing of items takes so much longer to upload

I use my phone to tether for one of my accounts, I quickly got fed up of logging IP's which is why I'm reluctant to use the dongle. But I found it to be quite good for the one account I do use it for, occasionally the signal can have a fit but that's down to the network provider. otherwise its a quick change of IP. Refreshing the IP manually requires turning the phone on and off.

I imagine if you do use the phone tethering option you can only use it for one account as they can log your emei number and MAC address

EBay/PP can't see your MAC address or EMEI using a browser when tethering. Tethering is the same as using a Dongle or MIFI, would still suggest recording your IP changes.
