Default Infringement of trademark & letter from lawyer claiming damages over £3,000

Guys I need some help!

I received a letter from a lawyer firm in London.

I did a search for this company in Google and also phoned them up to see if anyone answered and they do seem legit. Unfortunately the letter was sent by registered post and was signed for.

It is stated in the letter that they purchased a product from us which was found to be non-genuine or un-authentic, I did a search in my sales history and discovered that they did infact buy this item from me a few weeks ago.

It is written in the letter that they are acting on behalf of the company in US who own the trademark and patent rights for this particular product in the UK.

I have been asked to immediately stop further sales and to pay £2k to cover their legal fees and submit my books and all the sales records to them so they can claim further damages, aswell as surrender any stock I may have available.

They have also asked me to sign and return the statement included in the letter within 48 hours failing to which they will take further action.

Looking at the history of the account they used to make this purchase, it seems that they have targetted everyone selling this particular product and those sellers have in fact reacted to it in a way that they no longer have this item listed, others seem to have closed down there ebay account.

My question here is that, if there is any way to protect myself. Is closing down the ebay account, deleting and removing emails and paypal records a good idea?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as under no circumstances have I earned or willing to pay several thousand pounds to this company.
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!
