Default Afraid - 180day hold. 23k stuck

Hi all.
Just been reading about horror stories with stealth accounts never getting their money out of PayPal after the 180 days.

Account name - Stealth name, similar to mine but I used my middle name instead. DOB different. Stealth docs submitted

Business account - owners of business have been submitted. Me and my partner. All info supplied. Legit documents submitted.

They said that the ID is the issue, names too similar.
Chances of me ever getting that money back?
The account is a business account with my real business name, bank account is linked to it. I can prove I own the business. I can prove all business docs. And my ID.

Am so afraid I've just lost 23k. It's a ridiculous amount of money. I'm such a noob for leaving that amount in there. Just didn't see it coming.

Please help :(

Your story is heart breaking, and its likely that they wont release your funds as your ID will always be the issue - it's becoming more commonplace at the moment from reading around the forum!

I had similar when I first started stealth above five years ago, buit up 12k and then wham, my first exoerience of PayPal Limited. They where not as strict back then and mine was released within a couple of months, and the fact that you used pretty much your same name etc, I would issue small claims court proceedings. The only difficulty in using the courts is when you are using mismatched names, but yours would be fine by the sound of it.

Good luck!

There's little you can do at this time. The best thing to do would be to wait the 180 days, and then take matters from there.
IMO, that's when PP could make leeway if you push with legal letters etc., but at this moment in time they want to hold that £23k for loss prevention reasons as much as you want it. So this isn't the time to haggle with them.

In future, avoid keeping anything beyond a few hundred in your PayPal. Enough to cover potential charge-backs, refunds and fees, but not enough to make you lose sleep.

Thanks guys, makes me feel a little better. Screw PayPal. Hopefully I'll have enough for a solicitor in 6 months to assist!

I wouldnt wait six months at all to be honest, just open the small claim court proceedings now, its only a nomimal fee. Its becoming fairly standard now that PayPal are holding funds after 180 days if they don't like the ID given - which in your case you already no they didn't!

PayPal have never defended a case in court - always remember that!

Just to update this thread. All the money was paid back by PayPal 184 days after. Over £20,000. Money in my bank. I had to call and provide more identification about 20 times but I got there in the end.
For anyone else who has had this happen, it can be done.

It's a good practice, for sure! Sometimes I forget to withdraw on the last day or so of the week, and get all nervous with the extra money in it over the weekend lol

They requested drivers licence and passport again after the 180 days. I refused passport as I had already provided it, but I gave them drivers licence. No utility bill or company info was needed twice.

Geez! Reading this post now, that's way too much money to have in PayPal.

A buddy of mine is in a similar situation now with nearly 50k in his account stuck. When he told me about it I was shocked. Of course he'll get the money back but the trust people have in PayPal is too much. Oh well.

Hi guys, it's been almost 300 days since my paypal account was limited and they said they will release the hold on my funds after 180 days. Called them, kept being put on hold. Emailed them....well I've never got a reply for any other issues so I'm not expecting any surprises. Is there any other way to make them release my funds? How did those who got their money back do it? Thank you.
