I suppose it all depends on the reasons they give for holding your information.

It would be interesting knowing what information, including notes that they keep on a person.

But maybe we are all too used to hiding to consider it. I know I fit in that category. But then one day someone will come along that gives it a try and either it works or it fails.

I sort of recall there is a business law that makes a company hold some data for six years or so, but which one supersedes the other I have no idea. But I assume most of that is to do with accountancy rather than user data.

Anyone gives it a try then let us know how it works out.

Dear me, there are some fanatsies happening here.....

No user in their right mind would reuse info on the vague hope data is destroyed.

Sayin paypal and law in the one sentence is another fanatasy.

Work on the premise info is not deleted.

Work on the premise paypal is registered in the EU (Luxemborg) for all its critical decisions.

Otherwise look forward to grief if any of the mentioned tactics of reusing info fail

Seems some poeple have a misunderstood meaning of having your data removed from PayPal. The law states you can request any information a company holds about you and they must respond within 40 working days.

As for removal of your data, if you feel that the organisation or person does not have a valid reason for holding your personal details or that they have taken these details in an unfair way, you can ask them to change or remove these details.

In both cases, you can write to the organisation or person, explaining your concerns or outlining which details are incorrect. Within 40 days, the organisation must do as you ask or explain why they will not do so.

The problem you may face is that PayPal is a financial company and holds financial data on you so they will most likely refuse on grounds that holding your data will enable them to prevent financial fraud, money laundering etc and so must retain your details and so will not remove you but will offer assurances that your will not be contacted blah blah blah.

The data protection act is their to protect your data but does have some reasons for companies holding your info.
