Default irritating buyer

Your thoughts on the following, i know what I think , scammer!

Sold my old phone for £30, as went for upgrade, anyway, buyer received and signed for it by recorded delivery and put in a paypal dispute who held my funds of course, without emailing me first, says padded envelope was empty!

It doesnt add up but cant prove anything as theft goes on in postal service sometimes. I doubt royal mail will compensate for an item which was signed for by buyer, its on the system as received,

Sounds like the guy is trying to get a free phone.

I mean who signs for an empty package like you said.

He has your phone.

As long as you have delivery confirmation, that should be good enough for PayPal.

Well cell phones get activated so it's possible you could track the buyer buy his or her activating the phone. Then the police can become involved.

only if the phone is on a cdma network. and at best all you can find out is if the phone has been activated. not by who, so might not do you any good. if the phone is on a gsm network (takes a sim card) forget about getting any usefull information. anybody can just pop in a sim. good luck with ur dispute. since ebay changed their feedback system we all have to deal with this kind of bs from buyers.

update
Have challenged it, so we will see if pp allows me to get scammed, still if they do, this guy will be getting more than a garlic burp in an envelope.

Scammer buyers sometimes aren't that smart. You should try the police if you know the sim card # and then the phone company could at least look for a customer using that sim #. Or heck, you probably shipped it to the buyer's home address with signature so the police could become involved anyway. Basically see what cell phones the guy is using.

police dont get involved in these disputes in UK, it would have to be in the thousands of pounds. Ive logged the sim as stolen, its not being used, but as we know sims are disposible, its the phone that counts.

Its not the money, its not alot, its the fact that I know the phone was sent, he isnt even doing the decent thing and saying the post was damaged, so I can get compensation from post office, its signed for and undamaged as far as they are concerned, his route is to deliberately state it was a completely sealed empty envelope, which makes me look bad (well, my stealth alias), Ive only got 4 f/b on this account, and hes got loads, so he thinks they will believe him.

With eBay's new feedback system, often these buyers with tons of feedback are the worst now.
