I have looked around and nothing much has popped up as an alternative to Paypal for Canadians.

There is Moneybookers but we all know that story - seeing what can be done with this.

Unfortunately, Paymate, Propay are not available to us.

Without making a US-based account, anyone have any good solutions for Canadians with Canada account?

I will continue trolling the Net....

See my other response to your question.

You can link Moneybookers but you have to click "eBay enable" then it will work. You also need to make sure all verification of Moneybookers is done.

I was told by Paymate that they will be launching in Canada in October or November. That will be nice.

Default Google checkout?

Not sure about this , but you may need a US bank account. Not o hard to get, and I have a BOA that I am very happy with. For a lot of reasons.

Did you set up the BOA account with a trip to the U.S.? Or online - any tips would be nice.

yes . You need a US address. if you do not have a friend there , get a PO box, it is enough.
Then with the po box, go to a bank , and you will need your passport etc etc. I did not elaborate , I just said I spend time in the usa on vacations , and spend time in canada. I personally found it very easy.
You now have a us address and a us bank caat - chequing and savings - free of fees - both legit.
You will get a debit visa that will be sent to your PO box, so you will need to pick that up and then call in from your phone to activate it.
After this request all to be online paperless, and you can cancel the po at that point.

I initially did this for amazon, but afterwards thought I would open an ebay with this info , and did so from my home laptop. No problems at all and even though my other ebay accounts have been taken down right now, this is the only one still up and running. I am not listing anything on it right now, though it is selling on the GTC listings.
I would not be surprised if it were to come down at any minute though , as I did not protect it in any way when I set it up at first - was ignorant of all this that I have learned on this forum at that time.
I wish I had opened several walled off ID's on that CC address now looking back.

There is no need to actually to go to the US to open an account. I have used RBC (Royal Bank) with a Centura account, which have recently changed the name to RBC USA.
Anyway, this is a true US based bank account you can apply and set up here in Canada, just like any other bank account and PayPal or ebay have no way to know any different

You're right liimey - I had read that about RBC.

I asked JEM about the BOA accounts because I got fed up with RBC about 8 years ago and i have no plans of doing business with them. They cause me a lot of problems - I could go on and on ha but principals...no RBC for me =(
