Arrow PayPal 6 Month Claims

Basically:
Purchased iPhone about 2 months ago.
Seller said it came with 1 year Apple warranty
Checked Apple website - true.
Last month it stopped working completely.
Apple say the warranty has become invalidated as the seller exchanged something somewhere ... basically there's no warranty now.
Seller basically sold something saying its brand new with warranty, but in fact it isn't.

I cant open an ebay case, too late. I can probably open a Paypal case (within 6 months?). I have never done this previously (I know how to), is there any advice before I go ahead?

Try talking to the seller first and asking them about it

I will be doing just that... I was just getting opinions on this process in case they don't co-operate.

On my original accounts I used to sell Mobile Phones.

I occasionally received claims and chargebacks six months to 12 months after sale due to the "phone stopped working."

Hence I had a sizeable reserve in Paypal. It goes without saying I do not sell these items anymore.

I would just state your case to Paypal calmly mentioning the facts. It might be an idea not to mention what Apple said at this stage. Paypal in time may ask you to approach Apple for a third party appraisal given its value.

Mention the Warranty not being honoured and include a link to the listing as well.

Best of luck.

Charge backs 6 -12 months after? PayPal has no morals. They wont even respect your TOS. This is why many businesses (Not talking ebay) will never accept paypal.

Chargebacks come from credit card companies, not Paypal. Paypal actually goes out of there way to defend sellers against chargebacks in many situations. I get chargebacks all the time (mostly from international buyers) claiming "unauthorized purchase", and Paypal almost always covers the chargeback without debiting my account. They do have morals, believe it or not.

And I don't know what type of businesses you're referring to, but in my corner of the planet I'm seeing more and more businesses accepting P/P payments daily.

Yep chargebacks are issued by the card issuer.

In the past I have had a few buyers using chargebacks 12 months later for a £500 Mobile Phone.

Glad I am out of it.

I'm sorry for going off topic. I assumed your questions had pretty much been answered.

I don't think you'll have any problem at all getting your money back, especially if the seller proves to be unresponsive.

open paypal dispute ASAP without wasting time as once 180 days over they cant do anything, add all the information what u mentioned in the case, paypal will ask you proof of that which I am sure apple given you some sort of letter etc if not try to get that ASAP,

hopefully by the time u will open dispute and mention that info seller will refund u, if not 80% chances u will get refund form paypal as long as u will provide these evidence from apple or third party repair shop,

Paypal may ask you to fill action fraud report and give crime reference number to them and they will refund u.

I would say go for it and also good thing to remember while its under review ring paypal and also add that information over the phone most of time this help

paypal amended their time frame for claims.

They did it in writing and advised customers.

Your horse has bolted.

Not only that but all they did is align paypal policy with Federal and International Laws on claims to reduce chargebacks.

It has been a long time now and it seems to have made no measurable difference in claims.

Just an update, I contacted the seller, but havn't heard back just yet. I have also tried locating where I would open the claim, I couldn't find it. Under resolution centre, I can only search transaction, when I find the transaction (and open it), there doesn't seem to be any link to select this transaction to file a claim against.

Any ideas?

Get the paypal transaction id and then go to the resolution centre and click on 'resolve a problem' (something along those lines) and then put the id into that section and it will find it.
