Activity: 0% Longevity: 60% | | Moving away from U.K but need to use VPN??
Hi everyone...
I am moving abroad soon for a short while. While I am away I have someone that will do all my packaging and posting for me but my question is I need to be running the day to day things on my account but as I will be in another country I was wondering what I need to do to run my accounts from the U.K but be abroad?
Do I need to get a VPN?
Do I need to get a static I.P?
Im new to this and my understanding is probably quite poor.
I have 5 stealth accounts and I need to access them all when I am abroad but obviously show that I am in the u.k while doing this
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I use LOGMEIN there is a small fee I think I paid $78 for the year, and it works great, solid connection , I actually run all my accounts using logmein from my iPad whether I'm home or away, I feel it's easier using the touch screen for everything
Also I purchased a WEMO switch, which is an outlet , you plug it in a normal outlet and than there are two sockets, I plug my modem into one, and I'm able to turn my modem on and off where ever I am
So with Logmein and a WEMO switch, I'm able to control my desktop and now can change my IP from anywhere in the world

My only problem will be I will be working during the day and all my packaging will be done in the evening when someone is avaliable.... Meaning I cannot change my IP unless someone is there to do it... Is there any way around this?
Thanks

Hello, is it really that important to not use IP address from the foreign country? Im running my bussiness from Poland on the daily basis, 3 months already and i've never had problem either with PP or eBay. I sell mobile phones on eBay UK so very high risk items, £6.5 monthly turnover. ANy thoughts?

Really it should be avoided when possible. Less flags that are raised the better.

Not really. There is "Wake-on-LAN" option on TV since v9. Even if you're behind a dynamic IP.
The real problem is the connection - very slow. Currently I'm away ~220 km. from my city, with again 100 Mbit/s connection. The Internet is good and fast, yeah. But when I'm connected now to Home PC using TV ("waked" the PC remotely, ofc) - very slow and laggy, takes time. Keep in mind that my country is in Top #10 of the fastests ISPs and connection. UKish and Polish as far as I know are slower.
But ya, you can test it. Don't know if a normal Windows RDP would be better choice (if you have a real IP, ofc; otherwise it won't work) without any lag, "screening", etc.
Test from options by yourself. Buy some Windows-based PL VPS and test the connection, install there RDP / TV / LogMeIn, test all.

Interesting thread. Yes the problem is with TeamViewer is that you need someone to take care of the computer if need be, in case it crashes or Internet problems etc. I would much rather pay the money andbuse VPS where you have engineers looking after your computer 24/7.
Yes accounts can even be administered with foreign IP addresses, i run a number of accounts in one country from a other country with no problems thus far.

It's important. Like James mentioned the less red flags against your account the better and accessing your account from an out of country IP address in which you make changes to your account can limit your account.

I run my important accounts with VPS, the other accounts i log in from anywhere with no problems.
With globalisation i believe Ebay and PP are becoming more and more lenient, there are tonnes of people living location independent and more people going on holiday these days
Like i said, my important accounts i don't risk, but others i can afford to lose, but no problems yet.
I evem know people who have created accounts with foreign IP addresses and their accounts are still running

Right, logging into an account with different IP address and no browser cookies is a huge red flag. If you have browser cookies intact it's less of a problem I have found. Personally I try not to chance it.

After you check, read my previous post again (without ignoring it).

And about cookies, browser history and LSOs - just backup your current Chrome or Firefox installation, archiving it. But this works with the Portable CH/FF versions, not with the regular/default install because LSOs are in different folders, too much hassle (still possible tho, but not easy for an average user). Then into the PL PC - restoring the P CH/FF, starting it with the new IP and there you go - same cookies, history and LSO but with a new IP. Both eB/PP should be good with that.
But they won't be good if you just login from the PL PC with a barebone installation, nope. As already been said - they'll think that this is a "hacked" account, therefore raising a red flag, after that a possible limitation/verification.
