Amazon hasn't forgotten about tax ID's

This is what I got today:

Greetings from Amazon!

Beginning with the 2011 tax year, new IRS regulations require Amazon to file a Form 1099-K for sellers who exceed $20,000 in unadjusted gross sales and 200 transactions in a calendar year. To assist in complying with these regulations, Amazon set a policy requiring sellers who exceed 50 transactions in a calendar year, regardless of monetary threshold, to provide their tax identity information. We have temporarily extended the deadline for sellers to comply. Sellers have been contacted multiple times regarding this policy. According to our records, the e-mail address receiving this survey did not provide their tax identity.

Please take this brief survey to tell us what would better assist you in complying with Amazon's policy of providing your tax identity. The survey should take about 3 minutes.

My guess is that the 50 transactions is the limit, and whoever hits that will be suspended until they provide a tax ID (I'm thinking this since they didn't provide a specific deadline). I have NOT yet checked out the survey, btw.

Take the survey and tell them stop suspending accounts for nothing!

amazon shareholders will NOT be happy if amazon closes all accounts based on "50 transactions in a calendar year" rule.

Amazon just cannot afford to lose all these revenue from third party sellers.

Wait and see. :spy:

This survey doesn't even go through Amazon, I would NOT click on the link. It might be a way of Amazon phishing for more info about your account (and to possibly use against you to link accounts). I would only click on a survey link through Amazon itself and still would consider that risky.

P.s. From other threads info it sounds like the IRS has extended the deadline til Dec 31st of this year so let's hope Amazon lets us run rampant til then. I know 2 or 3 others mentioned working like beasts so they can retire after this year. Anyone else planning on turning and burning the whole year?

I think amazon makes plenty of money without us independent sellers the sad truth.

That`s why they have many other ideas in the works and money rolling in.

Pretty sure this won't work. 50 sales per account is probably all you will get.

I'm way passed 50 on many accounts and no IRS info needed. This has been discussed in other threads that Amazon is not pressing the issue as the IRS has extended the deadline to Dec 31st 2012.

where do you find "IRS has extended the deadline to Dec 31st 2012"?

The extended deadline is for mandatory withholding on accounts that have not provided a tax ID. The 200 transaction/20,000 dollar limit is still in effect going forward.

what u talking about 200 or 50 ? and where u find this ?

200 transactions/20,000 dollars is the IRS limit, 50 transactions is Amazon's arbitrary way of complying with them.
