Will an FBA listing have an edge in search results over a listing that gets shipped directly by the seller? The FBA program is not only expensive for the seller, but for the buyer as well.
For example, if I am to sell a phone case, I would normally advertise that with free shipping. On Amazon however, shipping that same item through the FBA program would cost 2-3€.

You will have an increase and sales and can often demand a premium price compared to merchant sellers. Amazon handles all customer returns as well But be warned! If you give Amazon your inventory they have complete control, they can destroy it if they think you are selling f@kes and can hold your inv hostage if you are suspended. Ive had an account that had inventory held in the FBA warehouse for almost a year on a suspended account - I kid you not!
FBA listings do get a priority, but only to an extent. I've found you can price your items up to 15% higher than the lowest MF seller and still get the BB.
I get about a $3 premium and a increase of sales by 50% with prime. Problem is, i never know when the item will be flagged, so if i send in too much, i have to pull it back and costs 50 cents each. So i now i am just sending 100pcs at a time in. I used to do 200, i may try 200, UPS is crazy cheap, but i get priority to charlotte from saturday to monday via cubic.

Why would the item get flagged in the first place? Trademarks/Copyright...etc?
I feel prime is for older customers. Younger people realize they can click right below and save money. USPS priority is ushaly 3 days. Prime is a gimmick like Sam's club membership. Prime price was rased for the reason they are losing prime members. But then again most stuff is cheaper on ebay anyway.
Biggest problem with fba is returns. It takes to long to get stuff back and no restocking fees can be applied.

I personally hope they will keep losing prime memberships. Sellers should be able to keep an eye on their inventory and ship by themselves. FBA is very expensive and eating up a huge chunk of profits. In other words, Prime & FBA are a pure danger to the future of e-commerce as we know it. They're the first step of invasion that will ultimately put everyone out of business.
