Default So I just got my first unhappy buyer.

I treated him like royalty... He had purchased a gps system from me that supposedly wasn't the right one. Which he was right and wanted a refund. i said that's fine. Please send it back and I will refund you.. well he opened a claim about it instead. Not a A-Z claim just a refund claim and under the claim category he put"defective".. Well my question is does this go against my order defect rate rate stat?.

I have sold 60 or so items so far on amazon and it says you can only have 1 percent defect rate.. well 1 out of 60 items is more than 1%. So would this be cause for a ban or is their something I'm missing. Does he have to open a A-Z claim for it to effect my defect rate?. Anyway... In fear what i did was explained amazons strictness and told him he could keep the GPS and I immediately refunded his money without any need for return.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am new to amazon hah

No it does not. Just make sure you get the item back, and then go ahead and refund them. Refunds wont hurt you unless you are giving them up the waazoo. Just treat them like royalty and avoid any situation which would lead them to freak out.

Well I already said he could have it and issued him a refund without a return /: . I wanna cut my losses and run. One bad mark and amazons out to kill me so to speak hah .

I understand where you are coming from on such a low feedback, relatively new account in their eyes. You may want to sell electronics and higher value items on ebay, and leave the low cost high volume items for amazon.

If its a cheap item then the refund without return was a good move. I do this for items $5 and under almost every time! Items up to $20 depending on the item I mostly just give the money back as if it really is defective I have no use for it and 99% of the time customers are not lying..... If you seem to get a lot of defect returns.... check your products it probably is YOU.....

The refund rate will not get you banned unless you get TONS of them. Do not worry at this stage. You did the right thing.

EDIT*
I just realized it was a GPS system. For that I would have authorized the return but probably offered to send him a prepaid return shipping label..... that always makes customers happy! and you would have gotten your high priced item back too

If you had only 1 complaint ie. claim and no other bad feedback or any other complaints then you are fine, you could have asked byr to return the item.
