vmware on windows 7, what other download i need to run it?

when i downloaded vmware, do i need linux? ubuntu? when i set it on microsoft, windows 7, it says cannot find the operating system.i check all tutorials in youtube, none of them works with my computer,I'm lost, anyone knows about this?

VMware is just a software. You will need Operating System (Ubuntu, Linux or Windows)

1. create virtual machine
2. install from? no installer disc, no installer disc image,
3. guest operating system? microsoft? windows 7?
4. finish, it will say "no operating system found"
what i did wrong? did i install it wrong? what did i miss?

The above answer apply to #2. You NEED an OS disc or Image

If you want to use windows, i think you need disk to install otherwise use ubunto(Linux), mac os, google os, those are free and i believe it comes with vmware & parallel(I have used for parallel).

Is there any safety or extra benefit to running Window 7 directly off a USB drive and running VMware from there? Thanks!
