Do nice template designs really improve sales? I am based in Germany, tried to use some US based services like Crazylister, but that didn't work with Ebay.de
Local services seem to be a bit expensive and in some cases out of date (design-wise).
Any suggestions?

Simple mobile-friendly listings do 10x better than complicated template listings.

Templates suck and also kill sales.
Many if not most templates are not visible on a mobile device or at least not well.
Uploading multiple real pictures and typing a description and then testing on an older iphone and Samsung phone is your best option IMO

I've experimented with both listing styles and templates always do worse. Templates were optimal ten years ago when most users were still buying from a computer. They don't do so well now.

Remember: this ridiculous question was brought to us by the guy whose 'best thought out threads' parade includes such old favorites as:
"I don't sell on AZ but IF I did and IF I got lots of Negs would they ban me?"
"If three of my family members opened an EB account in the same city as me would EB ban us?"
AND because that wasn't ridiculous enough, it's sister thread:
"If three of my family members opened an AZ account in the same city as me would AZ ban us?"
PLUS, for extra giggles:
"Apple is suing me and EB suspended me and all I did was sell 6000 phake iphone cords!"

I was just trying to answer the question. OP has stuck around to share his German perspective despite being constantly berated with insults since his first post. He's given Aspkin money and he's a contributing member of the forum. This really isn't the place to ride around on a high horse judging people. It's akin to going on a carding forum and acting like you're the new king because you've never participated in CC fraud.

So in your opinion what's the best option that would also be mobile-friendly? What do you use?

Hmmm... so far I have been using auctiva for my templates. Simple and clean, looks good too so it's easier for buyers to navigate even on mobile devices.
CHeck them out and see if it works for you

In my opinion that's the way to go. When I find a cluttered template-generated listing on eBay I usually look for another seller. Those listings slow down my browser and remind me of Myspace.

Possibly. I don't shop from the app.

Simple and mobile friendly is definitely the best as of right now. As long as your description is well written and everything is laid out coherently, it should do well.

I've never bought an item off one seller over another because they had fancy templates. I just want photos of the item, a decent description and affordable pricing & shipping.
I look at most stuff on my iPhone and iPad, so as others have said a mobile friendly setup is best. If you google eBay mobile listing templates you can get a good idea of the basic things you'd need to do if you want it a little fancy vs just plain text.
