Re: Sudden drop in sales?
Your fluctuating sales cannot be fixed by anyone on the eBay CS team more than you could have done yourself. It's a myth you could have deduced yourself if you think about it.
What they presumably did for you was to edit your listing and save it without making any changes. This would force your eBay listing to be re-assessed by eBay search algorithm (Cassini) for search placement.
If Cassini finds several factors in your favour upon re-assessment, it may rank you higher than your competitors; otherwise, you could remain where you were or sink lower perhaps.
My theory is that CS tricked Cassini by pretending to edit your listing. You were asked to allow 48 hours to enable Cassini to crawl your listing and compare it to other folks you compete with.
But it was your drop in price that caused your sales to return.
As regards why your sales dropped, I'll bet you £1 you've taken a hit somewhere that's inconspicuous to you: poor feedback disguised as positive, delivery marked as late, neutral feedback, loads of unresponded messages, loads of return request or INAD, INR, short return window, etc. It may even be that your competitor surpassed you at one or more of these factors, so you became the second place in search results. Cassini looks at all these.
