Does our sales history after 12 months reset on ebay? I have almost reached the VAT threshold, and wonders if it resets in February (since i made this account in Feb 2020).

You have to track your last's 12 months sales, there is no "reset" date legally.

As the poster above said, there are no dates with VAT for determining qualification, it's a rolling 12 month assessment.

Has eBay sent you a message yet on registering for VAT?

I’ve been in contact with eBay reps and for me personally it’s bad news didn’t go down to well.

Ive been told once you reach £85,000 regardless if it’s with in 12 months, so could be 6 months, 12 months, 24 months eBay will send an email for VAT registration as soon as you hit or are about to hit £85,000.

Which has messed my plan up as I was hoping to run a business less than £85,000 a year and not register for VAT but as soon as I hit it your have no choice to register or you won’t be able to sell on the eBay account again. Bad news very bad news.

ebay can't force you to register for VAT if your revenues do not exceed 85k in 12 months

I hope not as they were saying as soon as I reach £85,000 regardless of the time period then they would send an email for vat registration otherwise account would be restricted.

Have you had an eBay account reach £85,000 or gone past it after 12 months if yes did you still have to register for VAT?

Ebay can't ask you to register for VAT, if you legally are not required to do so.. just make sure you do not exceed 85k in last 12 months at any given period..

I am at 82k so far in the past 12 months, so i may have to rest my account for a while.

The thing is, that 82k came in 6 months since i left the account dormant.

I started off selling not expensive items but now I’m staring to sell expensive stuff and can just see my total sales rising. It’s rosed to £30k now but i started selling end of May so no doubt I’ll be up to £85k by May.

Can you let us know when you sell again and if eBay ask for the vat registration from you?

I'll probably hit the 85k by next week. I need to offload a tonne of stock, so will end up at around 93k i think.

Granted, it will pass but i'll probably give ebay a break for while, so don't really care if the account goes.

I shall confirm when/if i get a message from ebay

I have heard of people who reach 100k and are not penalized for VAT, that may be a glitch tho.

Hopefully i will be lucky haha (probably not)
