Hey everyone.
Not sure if this is a worn out topic, I haven't seen any recent threads pertaining to this issue...
How do you guys feel about accepting a payment outside of ebay because the buyer wants to "save the money I would have had to spent on fees by lowering the cost of the item"?
I've gotten this alot lately and usually just say no but its to the point where it makes me wonder the pros/cons of accepting payment outside of ebay?

You allow a buyer to dictate terms of a sale?
Risk to yield power in a sale, imo.

No...
I mean they would send me money via paypal, skipping eBay.
It's worth 70 bucks so they want to save the 7 dollars they know I have to pay eBay. I already messaged them back telling them I can't go lower the price or go outside of eBay.
Its a TRS account anyways....silly to not follow eBays policies, never know whos looking |

I always accept. Once he offers to pay outside ebay just ask the buyer his email and concat him via email and do the transaction from your second paypal. Keep the main ebay attached to your main paypal. Use a second paypal for this kind of buyers. This will make you extra bucks.
peace

Well I have sold quite a few outside ebay but only to people who have bought from me many times. Ebay screws us so if you can trust them screw them. I sell only items under $20 so they never ask for a discount just things like "make me a deal on four of those and send to me e m a l e LOL

I once sold outside eBay after the buyer pleaded several times. I accepted and guess what, buyer turned around and reported me to eBay. My account played "Russian Roullette" and was immediately deregistered.
The buyer filed a case against me before item was received. I lost account, money and time. Never again will I ever sell outside eBay.

I can kinda see if they're repeat customers and you have a good relationship with them but nothing else.
That soldifies everything to me... why risk it?
I mean if you add up all the time you spent on the account, in my case its a TRS account with 600/20,000 limits...I can wait on the 70 bucks a little bit longer haha.

Never ever. If EB reveals it, you will lose your account. And EB WILL reveal it, because guys offering it are scammers, they will receive the item, say that they didn't, or that it is broken or not as described and they want they money back. EB will dig, and find that it was payed directly, avoiding EB. Bad idea |

The Buyer wants you to lower your price by the $7 you'll save in fees...
Why would you take any risk to save this guy $7? What's in it for you? Goodwill? Try and buy groceries or gas with the goodwill some guy you've never met who lives a million miles away is going to give you.
It costs way more than $7 plus months of work to establish a viable account with decent limits, not to mention the time and frustration involved, why are you willing to take the risk for a tiny amount of money that you won't even get to keep yourself?
Block and move on.
Low-ballers, cheapskates, and barrel-bottom-scrapers are always nothing but trouble |

Ask for a txt number, then send a txt with a text plus number and get the deal done. Easily increase sales 20% if you add a txt number and save fees.
I am not saying to encourage sales off ebay. I am saying that this takes sales off ebay.

I do this for extra bucks when the opportunity arises. But like they said could be risky with scammers. depends what your selling.

I am not saying to encourage sales off ebay. I am saying that this takes sales off ebay. | I was thinking of doing something like this. I saw some member on here mention it and once I get my funds up to do it I plan on adding a couple phones to my strongest accounts (virgin mobile).
I know its bad stealth that I don't have any on them as of yet but I can't afford them at the moment.
What do you guys think of adding the phone number in listings? Instead of messaging they can call me or text. Is this okay with eBay? I wouldn't see why it would be a problem but.....its eBay lol

Unless the buyer is requesting information for an already ordered product I am highly sure ebay will NOT like this.
Wouldn't do it to often.
I usually go after the buyers who are asking questions.
Never let the buyer control the sale.

I thought eBay allowed inserting links to websites/numbers/etc in listings for buyers to find out *more information about the product you're listing*.
Obviously putting a link to your own website with the same product for sale for cheaper would be flagged. But a phone number for questions and a link to a article about the item may be allowed?

I'm only talking about adding a phone number for faster and more profressional communication. Not sure what the issue would be. They if anything should be happy I'm doing it haha...

I've called sellers who post numbers to process a sale over the phone, etc. if they have their own processor. They all gave me great discounts and everything worked fine.
As a buyer, especially of more expensive items, I know how much the seller gets ra.ped in fees and all of them have jumped for joy when I call them to work a deal for both of us.

Where a seller offers that type of invite, then I too would make an approach.
However I am going to be rather careful of some stranger offering to save me 7 miserable bucks on a TRS account. |
