Default Buyer paid postman extra.

So I sold an item and paid for the shipping label and everything. The buyer received the item but he said the post man said he had to pay an extra 4 bucks to receive it.

has anyone ever heard of that before? o.O

yes if the initial postage you paid for was not enough to cover the weight...

Absolutely...several time as a matter of fact! Generally, if a packages weight was under paid by a few ounces, it will make it through they system undetected (especially if priority mail). If it was first class, and obviously over 13 ounces is the biggest red flag and kicks it for human reweigh. At least that's what was conveyed to me by a regional postal inspector a few years ago.

It is rumored (at least at that time) that there were no dedicated systems in place to manually verify priority packages at most usps hubs. They rely on the fist line usps staff at the local level (post office) that accept and scan in the parcels. Not sure at all if this has changed since then.

If it were me, I'd reimburse the customer the 4 bucks, right away...along with a sincere, 'manufactured' excuse. Perhaps a new scale that is malfunctioning?
Good luck

It occasionally happens. Refund the buyer the $4, send an apology and you'll be sure to get positive feedback

Im going to keep the ride going as long as I can but I've never got "caught" shipping first class at 15 ounces. Now I don't do it everyday but maybe once a week..

Good thread to know the cause/effect of doing it though.

A lot of light stuff that goes first class can be undercut by up to 3 ounces. Bot that you SHOULD, but you can. I have sent 10 or 11 ounce packages as 8 ounces and havent had issues. However, should there be an issue, you should be ready to pay up

happens in UK.

you do not pay the actual postman though...you get a postcard telling you to go to depot and pay it and collect......plus you pay an extra admin charge too...so it makes for a p issed buyer generally.....

Happens to me sometimes on accident,

pisses me off that the tracking number doesn't display anything that more postage is needed because every time this has happened it always arrived days late.
