Activity: 0% Longevity: 64% | | adding a little note and free gift with my sales?
Is adding a little free gift in the package a good idea, there would be nothing in the eBay description about it, so hopefully it'll be a nice little surprise, is this a good idea.
I'm also going to add a little note saying basically thanks for your purchase and how important 5 stars are on the DSR, and if theory have a problem to please contact me first, but have read on other forums this annoys people, again is it a good idea and does anyone have any experiece with it?

Nothing wrong with it.
Its a great way to gain feedback and the customers really appreciate it for the most part.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I asked this on another forum and got told its a terrible idea, that people hate the asking for 5 stars, that it pees them off and they don't contact the seller before leaving lower scores.

Buyers on ebay love the word FREE so it's a great idea. I turn a hopeless angry customer that is ready to leave a negative by just saying here is your full refund and you may keep the item.
The next message is the buyers others personality stating how great of a seller I am and they will shop again tell every One about me and leave a great pos feedback
So giving a gift Is great idea

Free gift good.....just state something like "thank you for your purchase...........we understand you have many choices when shopping on Eb and we are thankful to you for choosing us. We hope we have earned your positive feedback and 5-star ratings. The greatest compliment would be to return. We hope to see you back soon. Thank you"

The idea is to give a little fridge magnet, hand made by myself, that relates to the purchase as a way to say thank you, however I'm being told on the other forum I'm just adding tat that no one wants.
Yet I know if I bought something and got a free fridge magnet I'd be happy for it.

Not sure what the "other forum" is but you can do whatever you feel necessary as long it makes sense financially. You can always test it out on a few sales and see what happens.

On one of my accounts, I was getting a feedback return at about 10%.
For every 10 items I sold I received 1 feedback and that was with me adding a personalized note. For the first 50 items sold I only received 5 feedback.
Added a 25 cent key chain to the note and now I am getting a 80% feedback return.
So freebies definitely help

When I first read it, I understood it to mean "return the item,"
instead of "return to our Ebay store."

So don't send Twizzers...those are filled with gluten (trust me).
Maybe a little bag of slivered almonds.
Unless the buyer bought a jar of wheat germ from you.
Then you're probably okay with sending candy laced with gluten (a.k.a., any candy with more than 3 ingredients).

I buy in a lot of collections of vintage items and there are always a few things that are really too small to sell alone. I use them to give as freebies so they dont really cost me anything.
However giving freebies CAN come back to bite you in the rear.
I once sold a hair accessory and included a small freebie. I got this message back:-
"Thank you for the little rhinestone barrette. However I have two daughters and am wondering how this will work out!"
Clearly she was expecting me to send a second freebie at my cost. I was tempted to reply "Here is a wonderful opportunity for your daughters to learn how to share"
Of course I didnt!

Yeh!
I would also never ASK a buyer for feedback as you may not like what you get!
As a buyer I almost always leave 5 stars but I hate getting bugged. A lot of my purchases go to my USA shipper and I Fedex them over every 2/3 weeks. Now obviously I am not going to leave feedback until I see the items. However the seller can see theyve arrived at my US address and sometimes they start bugging me a day later.
I know the 21 day hold makes it difficult for newer sellers but frankly thats not my problem as a buyer.
I had one seller ask me 3 times for feedback. I sent her a message saying I was "away from home" and could not leave feedback til after I returned on XXX. Then she went on about the 21 day hold and continued bugging me.
In the end I wrote her that its a bad idea to bully buyers for feedback as you may not like what you get.
She replied "I dont like your tone".
I didnt leave a neg because I liked the item but she got 1 star for communication and I mentioned it in my feedback comments.

If it is high enough in value I want feedback.
If not, I move on.
Manage to get enough feedback without begging. |
