I've just spent 2 solid months testing a theory about flash leakage and cookie cross-contamination. In a general overall sense and specifically with Firefox. I tested several versions of Firefox (2.0.14 - 3.0.x - and 3.5.+).

I started with a fresh PC out of the box. Tested with Windows 7 and then with XP Pro SP2 and SP3.

I tested using each configuration for ONLY going direct to my ecommerce sites. I then tested each configuration for ecommerce as well as average browsing.

First - Windows 7 is not your friend. It tattles on you.

Second - Firefox 3.0.19 and earlier are fine but 3.5.0 and newer get worse and worse for privacy. Private browsing feature of Firefox does not work as advertised.

Third - https://www.isecpartners.com/files/i...er_Cookies.pdf
and
Panopticlick

Fourth - Flash does leak and cookies do get seeded and sometimes shared across related sites.

A different browser is a potential solution. I did try a few simultaneously. It's cumbersome, but feasible.

I could see information leaking within Firefox. What and how is beyond me. But firefox itself is not bulletproof I suspect. Maybe, just guessing here....

But what can you do. A different browser for each account would be cool. But that's not an option.

@Vicvelcro,

Make a thread about it in the actual subforum as well. Otherwise the valuable info will get split between threads.

Nice Vic. I have had my doubts about both win7 and newer firefox.

I have two separate gmail windows open at one time by using ff for one and chrome for another and it works well. No conflict between the two accounts. Cant do that with 2 ff windows open. But I have been too worried on the unknown to try chrome with ebay on other user accounts and ip. Just not sure what the browser shares. I am going to down grade all my other users down to ff 3

Has mac addresses ever been changed? if your using the same mac address on all your accounts its an instant tie-in, ebay are not meant to use mac data to track you but they do, like all the other stuff they use to try and stop naru'd users getting back on.

btw the data is logged into the ebay databases the instant you make the account a seller account, i've found you can do what you like with the account as a buyer, but things change when you become a seller.

Wow... I didn't know that even the forum has stealth features. All of a sudden Vic made his return debut as stealth.

I've noticed this with Mozilla... I have to manually remove cookies, and lso. This has caused me some grief on new account creation. cc cleaner and changing settings in mozilla to automatically remove did not work 100% of the time.

This thread has been very quiet ever since things started working out for him. I guess he's finally making money!

if you open a new account how long do they expect you to wait to sell....i find it odd..

btw, GreenBean its nice to see you again...been at least a year or more.

For new accounts , it's best to cool down for one month . if you list products soon , system will ask for ID verification .many of my customers have same situation . try to buy some cheap products and list products slow and slow for new account.

I am waiting for some other idea.

Sorry I have been out of town. Family emergency.

I have let the accounts to sell slow and cool... So far so good. Using my droid for an IP seems to be doing well. I did run into the "verify who you are over the phone" with ebay. Anyone have suggestions on that one?? (I passed, but was wondering)

Uh-oh. I have never read anywhere that it was NOT ok to use Internet Explorer for stealth accounts. Did I miss something??? Very nervous! If someone could please respond I'd really appreciate it!

Also...

Does it really matter if routing numbers or banks are the same? A little worried about this as I am living in Western Canada, but all my bank accounts have routing numbers in Eastern Canada (as I used to live there, and it is soooo easy to open new bank accounts online, as long as you are opening them at the same branch as your primary account - which I have never gotten around to changing).

WRONG WRONG WRONG

eBay cannot track MAC addresses. Nobody except anyone around the first router (hop) of your internet connection can. Meaning, they would have to be either your internet service provider or in the same building on the same internet connection. It's technically impossible.

Glad to here it imjustme, about ebay and mac - BUT thats a real debatable question here, seeing as amazon can see mac, others may disagree - me? I dont know!

also,I do not believe it is a cookie deletion issue, by itself or in any case at all...you can delete cookies without issue, it is just handy to keep them, to stop hassle of non-recogition.

It's impossible for even Amazon to track MAC addresses, even though many people claim it. The MAC address can only be seen by someone connecting directly to your computer. The way an internet connection with a website works is through several hops (routers):

You -> (Router) -> (Router) -> (Router) -> (Router) -> Amazon

The router that is connected to you directly, usually your ISP, can see the MAC address. The next one already can't. And Amazon surely cannot either. It's not something that gets transferred in a website request. What is transferred is the IP address.

Amazon can and they DO read your MAC address everyday.
It is done through Java script.
Proven Fact.
