in jan does this ease up from you old pros? | Things are changing with new accounts.
Been a bit harder for new accounts to get thro' the hurdles. Dont expect the New Year to get better either.
The fact of the MC999 suggests accounts are getting flagged ( too often).
Is it the manner in which you are making them?
It needs be more than hit & miss.
It's also stated that having working phone numbers is essential.
Does your 1st item flag the account as well?
Quite a few variables that once sorted might stop these pesky suspensions.
:spy: |
stealthyfan111, might be helpful if you state how you set up your accounts - you are getting linked...or you are listing something very risky. Be clear as GB states. |
| Iwuvcurrency | 12-19-2012 03:40 PM | I get MC999's once in a while.. They just say o well we cant generate any questions for you blah blah.. and reienstate it.. |
| DoubleA | 12-20-2012 10:51 AM | How do you set up your accounts. |
| Iwuvcurrency | 12-23-2012 01:35 PM | I had another MC999 today, but this time they suspended my account saying they couldnt verify my identity.
I make my accounts, with a new windows every time, new email, new adress, phone number, verfiy pp.. i use ccleaner, and delete all cookies/cache just to be carefull..
Is their a way I could be linking ? Or do they do this alot on new accounts? |
I usually beat the mc999 by calling it in and verifying a few things, which I have ready. Seems like now they're matching stuff up to a public database, and obviously it doesn't work...
Not sure how to get around this. For this account I've made it look real, for the past month I browse ebay daily and check stuff out.
Said they would need an old address, and that's it. I asked if there was a way around it and they said no, not even sending in drivers license.
Is this maybe a US thing, because I usually use CA accounts and there's no actual looking up, just easy questions.

| Iwuvcurrency | 12-23-2012 05:41 PM | Thanks..
The first time I called in, the lady said, Im going to have to suspend your account we cant match you up to anything in our database..
Im like watever. hangup. Callback,
get someone else and all they did was call me on the phone number on the account.. And I was back on.... |
| Speeder33 | 12-26-2012 09:53 AM | looks like ebay is starting to get a little more strict, hopefully this isn't a precursor |

in jan does this ease up from you old pros? | I've had this happen to me a few times over the past 2 weeks. I have had both successful and unsuccessful attempts at getting accounts back. I'm wondering, do any of the pros know a way to shield ourselves from being flagged; say by selling at least 10 used items and THEN selling a new item? I have noticed no problems at all when selling like new or acceptable items, but once I try to sell a brand new item 1 in 2 accounts will be flagged. I'm thinking that having an established selling record could get us around this. Thoughts? |
| zoneout | 12-26-2012 12:31 PM | I think it depends of the new items are risky. |

| john_1962 | 12-27-2012 12:04 AM | Last week, I set up a new account with all new information and in new computer and listed a new item. Then my account was suspended immediately and asked me to call ebay. I called and a lady asked me several questions, such as account name, email address, birth data, registered name. Since I have record when registered, I answered all. She asked me waiting a while, and then said my account will be restricted forever. I really don't know how ebay check it.
This week, I use a new information and registered it again in another new computer, I tried to list a used book, but the account was restricted again and asked me to call ebay for verification. I wonder if ebay can track my true id through credit card ( greedot visa card gegistered with social security and data birth). The card's name is as same as the one in ebay. Does anyone has experience to pass ebay verification? |
| fingerblast | 12-27-2012 11:59 AM | I thought we determined that the Green Dot visa was no good? I never use them. |

Is their a way I could be linking ? Or do they do this alot on new accounts? | I have same issues. When I called ebay, they said they can't find matched name and address in public database. I wonder what kind of public database eBay can collect. Can anyone have ideas to solve it? |
| Iwuvcurrency | 12-27-2012 07:07 PM | I think it really depends on the person you get at customer service... |
| rockitaway | 12-27-2012 07:24 PM | I've also noticed this has been happening a lot recently over the holiday season. Does anyone know if this is an added security measure for the holiday season alone? |
Yeah, I've noticed it alot more in the past 2 weeks. Most of my new accounts right now usually end up getting mc999.
I tried calling in the first time and they were trying to match my stealth info to their public database, and they couldn't. As mentioned in this thread, hang up and talk to someone else. It really depends on the agent.
I've had a variety of outcomes with these.
1. just asked my name, address, and what I'm selling... unrestricted after simple phone call
2. try to match my stealth info to public database (whatever that is)... not going to happen
3. call me at the phone number on file... not a problem.
I'd say it's important to keep an active/accessible phone number for the first few months. The flags are automatic but once you're on the line with the agent, it's really up to them and so far they're all different. |
| fingerblast | 12-28-2012 07:15 PM | When you hang up and call back are you using the same eBay authorization code they give you or do you click the button and generate a new code? |
Good question. I've often debated this. But I call back with the same code and get a different agent so it doesn't go back to the same one.
I did call once and the agent said "no problem, if you get disconnected again we will call you" so I'm not sure if that was a threat or them just trying to be nice heh. |
| Mr2005 | 01-02-2013 03:14 AM | When you all say they call you when you're on the phone with them, are they telling you. Are any of you using goole voice and pulling this off? |
| john456 | 01-02-2013 10:24 AM | My new business account got MC999 yesterday.
Since it is business, I did not have to go through public database question. They simply asked me what I was going to sell and I was unrestricted.
I hope it is not a trend.

| Mitsu | 01-02-2013 03:21 PM | Seems to be only a problem with US accounts at the moment.
My new stealth US got hit by this but my first few items on my CA account sold without interruption. |

| zoneout | 01-07-2013 02:30 AM | Anyone get MC999 on new account since start of January 2013 Seems like eb stopped doling out automatic mc999s. Anybody get one last 3 days? |
I'll find out in a few days when I start listing if mc999 is being handed out as much as the last 2-3 weeks.
Could of been a Christmas thing... |

I'm noticing with my new selling accounts that I'll receive several rather annoying spam phone calls from eBay and then shortly after my selling limits will automatically go from 10/1000 to 5/500. Anyone know of a work around? |

| HurricaneHuntr | 01-09-2013 01:17 AM | Made 2 accounts so far tonight... both mc999 within 1 hour. I listed a baby stroller hook.... Not branded, not vero... etc.. it was automatic.
recovered both with just a call in. 2nd guy tried to generate... couldn't.. asked what my number was. gave it to him.. and he said ok good to go! |

| Mr2005 | 01-10-2013 04:07 PM | When they don't find anything in the public database, is it an automatic restriction?
When you call in to have your limits raised, do they also try to pull the public data base. |
| balzac | 01-10-2013 04:24 PM | I was a bit wrong that they can't find anything. I ment a bit different situation like if you use totally non-existing info.
But, if you use information which have records on public databases then situation is a bit more confusing. But the fact is that they use these databases to confirm your identity. As well when you try to raise your selling limits. |
| Laritha | 01-10-2013 07:28 PM | I've noticed MC999s that result in being restricted forever. No ID request, no call ins, just forever banned. I think those "spam calls" are actually eBay checking your phone number. Also, I think the system has been updated to something more advance since early December. | | All times are GMT -5.
