I have a Motorola surfboard modem model#SB5101 that I have been using to change IPs with ipconfig/release-renew for months and now I can't get it to renew my IPs anymore. I am using Comcast and I leave the power cable off for up to30min- 2 hrs. Should I get a router? Would a router make changing IPs easier?

I have the same problem, I was told by my ISP that they would have to change it themselves. Most internet providers offer Static IP address for more money a month and maybe that would work for you.
At this point I literally go to Borders and connect there on one of my accounts ha ha.
I cant change my IP at home, im waiting to get out of my contract and then will go with someone who will be able to make sure that my IP changes when I unplug everything and do all necessary steps.
My ip is dynamic. After 2 hours of unplugging, I was able to reset my ip address. However, my second time attempt, I did it for only a few minutes and it did not work so now I'm worried.
