Activity: 0% Longevity: 86% | | To anyone who has MiFi - ATT, Verizon, Sprint, Clear, etc
I have multiple ebay accounts.
I want to use a MiFi device to get different ip address for each account I have set up.
Exactly what is involved in getting a diff ip address with these devices?
Can someone give me a step-by-step process of doing this multiple times?
1 - Turn on MiFi
2 - Connect to internet
3 - Log in to your eBay acct
4 - Log out from ebay acct
5 - Switch the user account on your XP
6 - Turn off MiFi device?
7 - xxxx ?

My sister has the Clear 4g Myspot thing, the only way i can get a new IP address is by taking out the battery and unplugging the unit also. The unit would then boot up, which takes 2 minutes, then new IP address. But I only have found that it gives out 35-50 IP address'.
I now use phone tether using a virgin mobile smart phone. The IP address' is much more then Clear and Cricket was giving. I would think in the hundreds, since they use the Sprint network.

I am using the LG optimus v. I picked it up at Best (Worst) Buy last week for $99.99. But its back at 149.00 at Worstbuy and VM website. I am on the 45/month plan, its a decent basic smart phone.

Did you root it? I did not think you could tether right out of the box.

yea its rooted, VM does not have the hot spot figure like in the Sprint version so you need to root it. I used "SuperOneClickFor2.1" root program because "z4root" does not work for this version of smart phone. I then went to the Android market place and downloaded "wireless tether". My normal tether program "barnacle wifi tether" did not somehow work with this root program or the phone so I found another tether program. This program is so much better then barnacle wifi tether. It has a lot more options for encryption and other things.
Only thing I dont like about the phone is the smaller screen. Its a 3.2 inch screen, abit on the smaller side then I am used too, esp. with my fat fingers. But I love the range of IP address it gives out plus the VM internet speeds over stupid Cricket and $10/month cheaper too.

I've always had VM, but contemplated with the difficulties of rooting the Optimus V. It's not my main device, so the screen size and specs will never bother me. It's simply for handling dynamic IP access and idiots I sell to on CraigsL i s t.

Your welcome, I also had a very hard time rooting this phone. Most of the root programs out there did not work with this phone. I sent half a night reading other fourms to find any info on the problem. After almost giving up for the night and going to sleep I found the update to superoneclick2.1. I was using an older version of it.
Rooting the phone only took seconds. I could not sleep when I finally solved it. Finding another tether program took me 20min. Learning how the new tether program took me another 20min. By this time l was so tired that I fell asleep on my laptop's keyboard. An hour later I woke with a stiff neck but I went to my bed to sleep.

Using the USB version of the mifi devices will eliminate the need to do a battery pull and wait 2 minutes to receive a different IP.
Using the software with the USB device, all you do is disconnect from software, then connect. New IP.

More like $549 out of contract or $200 on contract and who knows what you're paying that monopoly of a company, AT&T. Now, unlocked and unbranded GS2 with the new $30/month Wal-Mart plan running on T-Mobile service would be better. But, the latter device is around $650.

Their cost is $60/month plus a new sim card. My idea was buying a used HTC mytouch 4g phone from EB for around $189 and using Simple Mobile for EB and PP and light general web surfing. I don't know the range of IP's they give out but I don't think they have a large pool of IP address'.
