It's not necessary to gain access to the Internet, but if you reset your modem/router, you'll continue to have this issue.
Do this...
click on start, then control panel.
click on network connections
there should be an ethernet icon, right click on it.
Click on (TCP/IP) and select Properties
Select the options Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically then click OK
