Default IP address issues

Hey guys, got myself into a little trouble here and lookin for help to get out....

I used to have Comcast back in my stealth days a couple years ago and changing their IP address was a brees...well now I got verizon and went in to try it with them,.

I couldn't find the option to change the MAC address and seen a selection where I could select it to automatically detect a IP address,.

now I see that was a bad idea lol now I get no Internet and can't even get back into the router to change that selection back....I tried looking up the IP config and used that one in the address bar and no dice...

.if anyone knows, how do I fix this mess?

What are you running, systems wise?

What happens if you pull the plug, count to 100, turn the power source back on?

Your screwed! Just kidding...try these steps (it basically resets everything).

Power off your router.

Reset the modem w/ a paper clip. (Wait about 1 minute).

Turn router back on. Rest router w/ paper clip, wait about 1 minute.

Now on your PC, click on START > RUN and type cmd.

A little black window (command prompt) should open up.

Type ipconfig /release and hit enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and hit enter.

After that, type ipconfig /all and hit enter.

This will display your network information. Ensure you see that DHCP is set to enabled. This allows you to obtain an IP address automatically anytime modem/router is rebooted in the future.

Hope this fixes it, cuz I'm off to bed now :-)

Good to know my steps above worked. You still need to fix your DHCP settings. It's not necessary to gain access to the Internet, but if you reset your modem/router, you'll continue to have this issue.

Do this...

click on start, then control panel.
click on network connections
there should be an ethernet icon, right click on it.
Click on (TCP/IP) and select Properties
Select the options Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically then click OK

Oh, and I got your PM messages, hopefully this answers your questions in PM. Let me know if not.

I figured it out, Go into router page and release IP address, once released go into the MAC address screen and change the address under Broadband coax. Once finished you can reboot the router from inside the web page as well, once it reboots you have a new IP...its worked everytime ive done it so far.
