Etsy taxpayer ID required

I have had stealth accounts for years, with no problem, but one of my accounts is now asking for a l taxpayer ID (national insurance number) any ways around this, do they check them ?

Re: Etsy taxpayer ID required

From Etsy:
"In January 2025, Etsy will be required to provide information regarding UK sellers who joined the platform in 2024 and meet the reporting criteria. Moving forward, Etsy will report transactions for all UK sellers who meet the threshold, regardless of when they joined."

Same true for EU accounts.

We can only wait and see, but I expect such accounts to be closed in 2025 at some point by Etsy.

No real way of being creative with this ID? Just wondering

Re: Etsy taxpayer ID required

Only tax number is requested.
But it will not match with identity in the database of tax authorities.

So this is it? Can we do anything about it?

Re: Etsy taxpayer ID required

so if you generate a NIN, they'll send it to HMRC and that'll be it? The last breaths of any stealth accounts.
to be clear i pay VAT and tax on all stealth account, was banned years ago and separated all account so i didn't lose everything again, they have been going since 2017.

i had this same message around 8 month ago, i think it only applies if you have over 80k in sales in a 12 month period, or maybe its 100k, either way i didn't hit the limit and i heard nothing from them after that.

I don't know much about UK tax system, but don't you have something similar to say an EIN or ITIN like in USA?

Re: Etsy taxpayer ID required

This will be required for all UK sellers who meet the threshold going forward as part of the reporting to HMRC. About 1 million threads on this on here, with every possible question asked.

As our marketplace and sellers’ businesses continue to grow, we’re asking sellers to share a bit more info about themselves. This helps us meet changing local and global regulations and create a better experience for buyers, so they keep coming back knowing Etsy is a trusted place to shop.

To simplify things for you, we’ve streamlined these new requirements into one easy process. You’ll need to confirm the seller info you’ve shared with us, then update or add any missing details within the next 60 days, as legally required.

Here are the regulations that apply to your shop based on where you sell or your sales volume. You can learn more about each law in our Help Centre.
UK Tax Reporting: You’re a seller in the UK who’s made 30+ sales or received £2,000+ in the past year.

Keep in mind: If you haven’t confirmed your info within 10 days, you won’t get paid for your sales until you confirm your info. After 60 days, if you haven’t confirmed your info, we’ll put your shop on pause via the Holiday Mode. This means you won’t be able to unpause your shop or receive new orders, and your listings won’t appear in search results on Etsy until you confirm your info.

Here’s how to confirm your seller info:
1. On Etsy.com, click Shop Manager.
2. Click Confirm info in the yellow banner at the top of your dashboard.
3. Follow the instructions to review or update your info.

UNPAUSE?
Is there such an English word?

so what happens when you try to confirm the info? does it ask you to upload ID or just confirm the names and address that they have on file?

Haven’t tried yet, but this could be the end of Etsy stealth as this account I am using was purchased off here!

Will report back

it could literally just be that they want you to review and confirm the name and address, without providing ID, click on it and update us, you can always click cancel and go back.

i had 3 from him, all shut down for same reason, did manage to make some good money from them though, each lasted around 12 month each, he doesnt sell them anymore though, looks like buying stealth accounts is dead now.

cant you apply for a tax id? or set up a business and get an id? are you getting funds put into your own bank account?

agent006140 10-22-2024 01:25 PM

Re: Etsy taxpayer ID required

names on the bank account has to match the name he used to open the Etsy account,so if it is a company, then he needs a commercial bank account.

this is not true for the UK, etsy can not see the name on the bank account, UK banks arent allowed to give names because of data protection laws.

This is a stealth account so my name is not on the account (ahem). Funds do go into my own bank account yes.

Etsy are **** like, support are useless. Happy to take ad fees, listing fees etc etc but close you down despite thousands of other sellers selling the same stuff. Make my blood boil.

The amount of name changes I have gone through 😂

If this gets shut down I am going to make my own site and not bother with Etsy

what category are you selling? what i mean is, cant you start a company with a tax number, then change the shop name to the new company name, there must be a way for people who started an etsy shop in there own name to transition to an actual business once sales are high enough.

Tax numbers can only be related to your own personal name

possibly, worth a shot if they suspend the account and you have no other options.

rite but no one is selling stealth accounts any more, they seem to be too time consuming to make, so its pretty much dead unless etsy makes it easier to make stealth.
