True story, I took chopsticks from whenever we ate at a Chinese restaurant and sharpened the bottom and put an eraser on the end so it looked like a pencil but does not break so easily lol No kid could understand how my pencil took a beating and still not break lol As kids we were all creative & came up with a lot of crazy ideas....

People have no idea how much there is no money at all in those things! I remember when I had my Inc. 10 years ago I was trying to get game systems to resell to make big bucks!!!

I found out you only get $2 to $3 off only even if you buy 100 of those you might get $4 off. What a rip. Maybe things changed since then but I doubt it.

My sister and friends and I had some very bad business ideas from ages 7-10, the worst
was dressing up in costumes in the front garden, with music blaring and doing dance displays that we expected people to watch and pay us for, some old ladies felt sorry for us and gave us some...

the other, which funnily enough my own daughter did too recently too, was make perfume, by collecting roses etc in the garden and squashing with water or vodka, smelled it and it was vile so added our mums perfume to it, ALOT of it and put it in jars with ribbons on and tried to sell it door to door, again people felt sorry for us and bought it and probably threw it away.......or use it as toilet cleaner. I smelled the one my kid made and it was great until I noticed she had emptied a whole bottle of my expensive perfum in hers.....

I baby-sat for kids and took dogs for walks though for my neighbours and spent the money on magazines and sweets etc....my mum told me to go and take someones baby out when I was 8 in its pram every day as its mum was having some nervous breakdown..and I didnt even get paid...

I remember having coffee outside with a friend of mine and two older gentlemen started striking up a conversation with us. They actually looked pretty cool so we ended up talking about sports, the economy and eventually it led to work. He asked us what we did for a living, I told him vaguely and he says: "You're a hustler! Yeah that's what we used to call people like you back in the days."
Put a big smile on my face :)

Wasnt there a movie called the Hustler?

People get the word confused sometimes.

Hustling in most cases does not mean bad things, but then we have those who hustle people to steal from them.

I see a hustler as a person who wants an end result and is willing to work very hard at any opportunity that has been put in front of them.

Started at 14 or 15ish.

Every friday after school and saturday/sunday, I would have boxes of the newest pokemon cards. I took my allowance, saved it for like 3 months and bought one box and reinvested to get more boxes once it sold.

Never told my mother and when I would come home with wads of cash (around $425 over the weekend)
She thought I was selling myself or drugs

When I told her what I was doing and that I wanted to get a computer (at this time, dells were like 3.5k for the whole setup) She went out and got one for us!

I was so excited and that's when the money bug really hit me.

I learned HTML and made a website that sold art supplies, hand made jewelry, yugioh and pokemon cards. Had BOXES of cards moved in and out of the house.. my mother and step father even helped.

At the age of 16, I purchased a horchow bedroom set for $6000 for my mother, paid the rent and got her a gold watch.

Times have changed as far as what I hustle...but I'm still a hustler. :typing:

cjmixers...props...I made a killing on the pokemon card/memorabilia craze too...wasnt in high school though, was in university - ended up buying a condo near my university - solid times but I remember sleeping sooooo little - Besides school and gym, I would be listing to meet Pacific standard time auction endings hah and then packing and shipping a ton....going to Walmart early to clean out their stock.

I remember one employee telling me one time that a few people were unhappy that I had bought out all the Pokedexes in stock one week hah.

Around that time 1 dollar US was worth up to 1.47 CDN...sick times

First ever thing I started was a free school magazine, which had a competition in it that cost £1 to enter. That was when I was about 10 or so. Before that there was of course house hold chores though, wash the car, cut the grass ect.

After the magazine I got into selling POGS (I think they were called), then yoyo's as that was massive at the time, then Pokemon cards, shortly followed by selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ phake rolexes to all my school friends for £50 a pop when they cost about £15. First and only phakes I have ever sold though.

Then at 16 I started business that worked like a betting exchange around the school on school matches and things. Worked well because people always bet on their own school and our school was rubbish at sport (only a 400 pupil little boarding school).

Then poker torments at 17, followed by eBaying. First sales on eBay were concert tickets and rugby tickets. Been on eBay ever since, as well as having an investment business that specializes in unique investments (like shares in racing horses, and houses, ect)

Used to hustle selling yugioh cards back in school. Demand was crazy. Would buy cards from ebay and sell them. Made like 20 bucks in 1 day. I felt like a king back then lol.

Maybe all have a little bit of Mark Cuban in our blood????

Selling gum to students at school and making a killing.

His story of early teens selling things is amazing.

Now look at him, went from selling gum etc to being one of the most wealthiest men alive.

Marketing genius.

GreenBean 05-10-2013 08:39 AM

And we do ebay.

In High School I sold Donuts for .75 in the morning during homeroom (the money I used to make - WAO!, now laters and during Christmas time I would sell candy canes of different flavors for a quarter (again huge money makers)
I became know as the candy cane girl. Those were the times. Then I found Ebay and sold stuff around my house. After that I became Hooked!!!! Online sales were the way to go!
