^^Depends VERY much on the VPN. Some that are already used by many users are known to ebay/paypal & that is a problem.

Another point when you pick the VPN is to make sure that you do not share an IP but have your own. EG, some weeks ago, blacklogic looked to be OK. Sadly users here had accounts suspended with that VPN.

It means your own IP unique to just you. Noone else shares the IP.

Strong Encryption — Some VPN service providers offer SSL/TLS and IPsec (cryptographic protocols) for an added layer of security. OpenVPN is also very secure and is an option to thwart ISPs that block regular PPTP VPNs. PPTP can leak DNS data, and isn’t really all that secure, but is often a suitable workaround for ’sandvining’ or throttling ISPs.
Does this important for Ebay/PP?

As far as I know it is and it gives you IP addresses from all over the globe.

You can always open it and then go to IP Burger and see what it tells you. I am pretty sure that it lists there if you are being seen through a proxy or not.

I use AOL for my main account without ever having an incident.

How would they know simply by using AOL that you are not using them as a dial-up and as a result getting a different IP address?

BTW for AOL there seems to be 3 or 4 addresses that I always get

Just a point for purposes of clarity:

AOL can be used via dialup OR via broadband. Dialup is still reported by many to be viable and safe. Point of logic though, if you are registered on ebay/pp/amazon as a business, they aren't likely to believe dialup connection. Businesses can afford broadband and for purposes of economy would NOT use dialup.

Broadband AOL is brokered through other providers. For example, if you get AOL broadband in Northeast Ohio, Time Warner provides the connection via RoadRunner (so it isn't really AOL - it's franchised). Thus, no help there.

Not sure what you mean. Your hypothetical is too non-specific. My 802.11 B is a USB wireless but still has an ethernet MAC. Same with my 802.11 G. It plugs into the USB. My SBG900 cable modem is a wireless gateway that I can use via a regular dongle, rj-45, or plug into my USB. My cell phone can plug into my USB. My old PDA was a bluetooth and a wireless G device. I could use that some device 3 different ways to feed a signal into a PC. There are other USB thingies that I don't personally own but do fit your criteria. The cellular frequency doohickiemabobs from AT&T and Sprint come to mind.

All of my above examples are wireless (you might not think so, but it's true).

Different USBs would be implemented differently in practice and the logistics wouldn't be the same.

I'm thinking a tethered cell phone or a cellular dickie-doo-device might actually fit the bill.
