IP Address Change Question

I went through the steps and changed my computer's ip at work.
The number changed, but then completely kicked me (only me) off line.
What did I do wrong?

Is your computer on an Intranet with firewall?

If you mistakenly changed your internal LAN IP, you got booted while the DHCP refreshed your workstation.

Hi. How can I tell? They just installed a new program on our ooooold computers but I'm not sure if it has a firewall. If so, what should I do?

Were you able to change IPs before they installed the new program? If yes, what is the new program?

Do you have other personal computers/laptops that you can use at home?

There is no solid way I can answer this with limited info provided.

Instead of asking backwards, perhaps you give us a bit of information up-front. Some details about the setup - that don't reveal anything that would be a breach of security in an open forum.

I think I will just stick to changing the ip's at home.
That way I can mess around with it all I want.

Right since you have no control over the router, other components & DHCP on LAN.
