Default regarding ip address

hi just wanted to ask about the ipaddress. just read the book and it said we have to keep our ipaddress different for different accounts and either use dial up or VPN....
is it possible to use any software which hides the ipaddress ,there are lots of companies providing it. so could u let me know whether we can use any of these ,and which one is the best or do we have to use the other procedures which u said ie dial up ,VPN ...

Default IP Address

My personal belief is that you need to use an IP that is not previously linked to a suspended account in order to register.
However after that , you can use any IP.
It would make sense that they should not suspend users based on using IP that is linked to suspended users in case it is free Wifi at airports , restaurants , or coffee shops.
I use the same IP for various accounts , but I always register them on a new Ip. I welcome anyone to dispute this , as it may not be correct , but it has worked for me for years.

Remember to use different windows users for each account though !

cheers

Jesse

Hi, i assume you are creating a UK account.

If so DO NOT use a VPN... it is an unnecessary expense and risk. Also don't use proxies or anything ese that attempts to hide your IP address. Ebay/PP will see straight through it and suspend/limit your accounts.

Getting a new IP address is easy. If you have broadband and a Static IP (i.e. one that doesn't change often) then sometimes resetting your router/modem can provide a new IP address. Try it - check your IP before and after. The best way is to leave your equipment switched off over night and check in the morning.

If this doesn't work a very easy solution is to get a mobile broadband dongle. These assign you with a dynamic IP address and it will change everytime you disconnect from and reconnect to the net. Dial Up works the same way but is generally slower.

Yes, and I never bothered before but I suppose its worth making a note of the ip address that you use. That way when you do the steps what Jack suggests above then you will know if you are getting a new unique address.

Does anyone know how unique IP addresses are? are they recycled through different users?

I have just done a test with talktalk broadband service. I switched off the modem 18 times for 3 minutes and every time was a new IP address. Some were similar and only different by 1 or two digits, but that is apparantly enough.

go to google and type whats my ip.

Then write down your ip address.

Switch your router off (overnight is best)

Then switch on and check you ip again.

Its enough if you have an ip with just 1 digit difference.

I have been switching IP several times a day due to setting up new ebay and PP accounts.

But once you are ready to sell, stick with 1 IP address if possible.

Jumping through lots of IP's raises flags.

I dont like to do this but when setting up its unavoidable.

How jumping through lots of IP's raises a flags when their are some user that use dail-up? Dial-up switches from roughly over 12,000 available IPs through access numbers. It saids it here and here

"But once you are ready to sell, stick with 1 IP address if possible." Can you elaborate a little bit more on that? Are you referring to 1 IP per ebay account or the same IP for all of you ebay seller accounts.

^^^let's both hope that he means x1 IP per account [if the service is not dial-up.]

Don't want to have a dangerous trend start that it is OK to have the same IP for multiple accounts with dsl, adsl.

I mean that I only like to sell desicated to one ebay account at a time. I dont like to juggle accounts.

So when I am selling I try not to change IP.

However when I have a problem and the account goes down I often use the opportunity to set up several new ebay and PP accounts.

Thats why I change IP between each one.
